Well gals here we are we have arrived at our new home and it is time to unpack all the stuff... and of course pitch a lot of stuff before we step foot in the door. I hope everyone made the move okay. I have turned some lights on and put up the welcome sign. I am glad to say EVERYONE gets their own room so decorate to your hearts content. I have setup the gazelle, Core Secrets and Pilates in the workout room. I also have fresh oatmeal, fruit and fresh ground coffee in the kitchen for morning so hope Carol can find it all and get breakfast going for all of us. Gals I am so excited here we go on a completely new ADVENTURE we can do this again and we will succeed at our pace and each others. I have included in the workout room some of my current Shape magazines some great ideas in there for each and every one of us... So here were are... Hope everyone gets a good nights sleep as we need to Get R Done starting tomorrow. Love to you all... Melissa

Good morning, BRASSY BROADS!!!!! I'm trying out a different color -- hope you don't mind! Wow, MELISSA, thanks for all the work you've done! You're moving into your real house, and you've done all this work in our virtual home, too. Love the new kitchen. Yes, I found everything -- it's all so well organized. A bunch of random thoughts: First, yes, DONA, I think you're absolutely right: it's time to step up to the plate. (Is that a baseball analogy, or an eating one???) I promise to make some changes BACK to where I was two years ago: being accountable to myself and others, monitoring my progress, planning my day. I haven't done any of that in a long time, and it's showing in the mirror, on the scale and in my ever-tightening wardrobe. JAN, I have no idea what you're talking about with aol and stuff, but I'm sure that someone (TINA?) will work me through it. Whatever it takes to get you back here on a more regular basis will be fine with me. I do have a question though: I remember that when we first started (eons ago), Provida emailed us when stuff was on the thread. Does that still exist? If so, maybe you could hook yourself back on to that, and then you'd know when there was stuff going on. Or just get in the habit of checking when you wake in the morning or go to sleep at night. Anyway, we've really missed you. Also, TINA sort of filled me in on your surgery, but I think I may have missed your original post. Anyway, my prayers will be going out to you, starting NOW! Boy, it's so nice to have you back! DONA and MELISSA, when I think of BRASSY BROADS, I think of both of you! I love your senses of humor and the fact that you both say what you think. That's one of the issues that I'm working on: standing up for myself. It's that old stuff of not-being-good-enough. Anyway, you are both role models for me -- not just in the weight-loss journey, but in life. And TINA, who would have thought, two and a half years ago, that I would meet someone on these boards whose friendship I would cherish so much. I hope you're feeling better this morning. AND TO ANYONE WHO IS "JUST VISITING" OR "JUST LURKING": here's an open invitation to you. We are a group of women who started the 6wbmo about two and a half years ago. There started out being a lot more of us, but we are the ones who remained here and together. We have a lot of history among us, but we are thrilled with the idea of new people joining us. So, if you feel comfortable: just start writing right away. If you want to read for a couple of days before joining in, please feel free to do that, too. TO THE OLD BROADS: how about, in the next day or two, re-introducing ourselves -- a couple of paragraphs, a couple of pages, whatever -- so that any new people reading know who we are and how much we've accomplished. They'll also see the traps that we've fallen into. And hopefully, join us to reach our goals! CHALLENGE: OK, everyone, here's the first challenge for us. Dig out those old tapes/cd's. Spend the weekend trying to find them!!! Starting on Monday -- before, if you can do it, but DEFINITELY STARTING ON MONDAY, we listen to them, just like we did two years ago. In the car, in the kitchen while cooking, in the bath while soaking. Let's follow DONA's advice: step up to the plate! OK, breakfast is ready, thanks to MELISSA's organizing last night. There's plenty of coffee and tea and water for everyone. For the am fruit eaters: apples, pears, bananas and some frozen blueberries. For the am carb eaters: our BELOVED ELF found our new home and left her oatmeals -- plain, flavored and flaxseed (for MELISSA and DONA). Well, BRASSY BROADS, I hope that everyone has a great day!

WELCOME HOME! Yea! I found you! Thanks for getting the house set up Melissa. It looks great. I picked the room with the view of the mountains. Now to get all my stuff out of storage . Jan, you can have whatever room you want and your view will be perfect. {{{Hugs}}} and prayers for you for your surgery. Don't be a stranger - we all have missed you. I like the new color Carol. Red is very assertive (and just so happens to be Sierra's favorite color). Thanks for the challenge. I have been meaning to find my CD's - and now I have a reason. Dona where are you this morning? You usually beat me to the kitchen. I hope you found your way home OK. Thank you for all the inspirational words Tina. I am with you. One pound at a time - or even a half-pound - just as long as it is coming off. Welcome home brassy broads! We can do this! I love you all!

Good Morning. I am here no way have you lost me or left me behind. But thanks for caring . I think I will take the room next to Jan's. Remember we used to share the same room and I have missed you. I would like the mountain view I already have the lake view now Ok. Its really exciting and motivating all our new commitments. I also will get out my tapes and CD's and the extra ones we alll got from Carol and Tina. And just plain and simple start listening with our minds and hearts. Its for the best of the whole body. I brought in a few low impact machines for us also so when our shoulders and legs are killing us even our backs. We can get on one of then to work the body parts that aren't hurting. OK. So no excuses. Except like Jan for surgury. Carol I feel bad also I don't know exactly whats happening here either. But our prayers for your fast recovery are with you Sister. Melissa what a great job on the new house. I love the welcome sign. And our name Tina. Brassy makes me feel kinda bossy, or a bad hair dye day. But its ok and will work. I have been there a few times and can relate. Melissa I need to go and get us some more flaxseed. I ran out and haven't been eating any. I can tell in my hair and skin and nails. Can you? Gretchen are you gonna put out some of your candles for us to enjoy? I hope so. What are the new smells out now. You will all love this. My girlfriend here is going on a date tomorrow night. Its the first date she has had since she got a divorce 10 years ago. Yes she need to blow off a few layers of dust. lol So she asked me what should I wear to go out to dinner. MInd you she is heavy like me and is older she is 59 now. I laughed at her wardrobe and asked are you going to work or church. Your closet sucks. So she demanded I go shopping with her. So off the Catherines we go. Ok $500.00 dollars later she is going on one date. While she is trying on clothes I asked you got a bra on. Of course she did. I said after your reduction, like mine she should be at attention not at parade rest. So she got new right from the underware out. lol The sales girl loved me. Lmbo. I happen to mention and was thinking of you Carol, If this is a one deal shot then shoot for the moon with no regrets. And remember to shave your legs all the way up not just to the knees. Now how much more incourgament can I give the wormen. I just thought you all would like to hear a funny. Or is it just funny to me? Ok tonight we are heading north. I will be gone till late Sat. night. So Moms don't worry where I am We are taking Tyson with us. His first big trip. May be his last who knows. Plus I am going to the casino for a while tonight. I thought it better to go there first before he hits the swap meet. Or we may have no money left. lol Smart thinking HUH??? Ok I have to do some wash and pack and shave my legs. lol All the way up. Special weekend here. lmbo. I may get lucky at the casino and ???? I see lots of turkey sausage, and meatballs, and chicken being cooked this weekend. Don't forget your fish. I always did my best when eating fish. Are the salmon done running in alaska yet. They are all up river here nowl But you can get good fresh fish at any grocery store now days. Oh and most important. WATCH THE WORLD SERIES AND DETROIT SATURDAY NIGHT. BYE LOVE DONA

Discover the joy Stop waiting for someone to hand you the answers to your most difficult and perplexing questions. Those answers will come when you focus your life on what you know in your heart to be true and worthwhile. The secrets of life are not kept from you because someone has chosen to hide them away. They are always yours to know and experience when you're ready to accept who you truly are. The world may seem to be filled with confusion, frustration and random events. Yet when you become fully focused on your most profound purpose, it all makes perfect sense. There is value, there is meaning, there is opportunity and beauty in such abundance that you cannot begin to imagine. Let go of your ego, drop your useless pretenses, and a whole universe of magnificent possibilities will pop into view. It's time to stop running from the fears you've imagined. It's time to start fulfilling the life that you are. What you most fervently and sincerely desire is longing for you to accept and live its reality. Go ahead and discover the joy in letting it be. -- Ralph Marston Hi Ladies ~ Isn't this nice to be here....??? First off Anybody can use ANY color they want to when they post. NO color belongs to anybody...!!! I use Pink alot but anybody is welcome to it too. I just like color...!!! So knock yourselves out with color....!!!! Good morning, BRASSY BROADS! I was so excited about our new thread that I actually got on the computer and posted yesterday afternoon. Got a whole lot written, and WHAM, the power went off. We lost electricity for several hours -- that's what happens when you live in the mountains and there are horrific winds. Anyway, in case we have any new people dropping by to visit -- or any old friends: TERRY, are you here yet? We miss you!!! -- I wanted to take some time to introduce myself and give a little BMO history. My name is Carol, and I bought the BMO three and a half years ago, while I was watching HSN. It seemed like it would be perfect: people kept calling in saying that it worked, and Michael kept talking about healing our metabolisms. So, I bought it, and actually did the program for a couple of days. I thought that it was difficult and complicated, and I decided to put it away in the back of my closet. At that time, I think that I weighed in the 230's. On HSN at the same time, Suzanne Sommers was selling her program and her foods. Her foods sounded wonderful -- and tasted wonderful. Her program felt like it was a better match for me: no cardio was stipulated, and there was no portion control. This was the program for me!!! So, in the next year, I faithfully followed the Sommersize program -- and faithfully gained another 20 pounds. I'm sure that Sommersizing works for many people, but it didn't work for me. I'm an emotional eater, and when I would eat, I would eat to cover up my pain. And I had a lot of pain. So, I would eat these huge portions and then sit on the sofa and watch tv. It's surprising that I only ballooned up to the 250's in that year. So, a year went by and I was Sommersizing, and even I finally realized: this is NOT working. Was watching HSN again, saw Michael, heard all the people calling in, and searched for that big box in the back of my closet. This was May, two and a half years ago. I began the program with a little more determination this time. I read everything. I planned. I bought my food. I logged on to the computer and found three or four threads that I felt comfortable on. And I lost weight! On one of the threads, people were talking about NBU, so I checked that out. It sounded exactly what I was looking for. In the threads, people seemed to drop in and out, and I needed more stability and support. And, what I didn't realize at the time: I needed more structure and accountability. So, two years ago in August, I joined the Monarchs. I remember feeling overwhelmed at the time: there were a lot of us. I remember that I would actually take notes as I was reading everyone's posts: I couldn't keep names and stories straight. I also remember thinking: thank goodness that this is happening in the summer, when I'm off of work: will I have time for this during the school year? But, I did the program, I tweaked my program, my sisters helped me refine my program where I was inadvertantly doing things incorrectly. And I lost weight. I made my goals. I say GOALS because I had several in a series. My first goal was to weigh 225 pounds. I knew that if I weighed 225, I would no longer feel FAT. I knew that I was still fat, very overweight, but I knew that I would feel that I was now in the normal range. And, yikes! I made that goal. My next goal was to weigh 208 pounds. I know that that seems like a wierd number, but I had gone to a hospital nutritionist when I weighed 252, and her goal for me was 208. 208, she said, will be a good weight for you. I thought: can I ever really weigh that little? I don't remember ever being at that weight. But I got to 208. Then, my next goal was 199. Onederland. It seemed like a dream to get there. I really wasn't sure that my body would cooperate. But, I made it. The morning that I weighed 199.5, I called my best friend, Bill at 5h15 in the morning and shared the news! He sent a dozen roses to work that day to celebrate my victory. I continued to lose weight and actually got down to 188 or 189. But, that really was a struggle for me, to maintain at that weight, so I settled in to 193-194. That was the weight that I maintained for a year and a half. And then I got lazy, then life got in the way. A year ago, I went from 193 to 208. And paniced. I was gaining back the weight. I joined NBU again, but the group didn't feel the same as my previous NBU groups. No one seemed to care about me. I wasn't even able to stay the whole six weeks. And then, with personal issues, last year, I just didn't do the program. I lied to myself and told myself that I was Living Lean. Really: I was Living Fat. I gained even more weight and got myself back to 220. I don't like the way that I look. I hate the way that I feel. It's very strange: when I weighed 250, I knew that I was fat, but I didn't FEEL fat. I mean, the rolls around my stomach didn't bother me, I could cardio with the best of them. But, now I FEEL the fat. I feel it around my waist, I feel it underneath my bra. I feel it everywhere. I get out of breath easily, I tire easily. And here's the kicker. Because of this program, because of losing weight, I felt able to start dating again and I met my finance. I really don't like him seeing me naked at the weight that I am. I want to lose this extra weight before the wedding. So, I'm back. Actually, I never left. Two and a half years ago, when I joined NBU, I really joined the most wonderful group of supportive women in the world: TINA and DONA and GRETCHEN and MELISSA and JAN ... and others who, for their own personal reasons, stopped dropping in. TERRY, this is you! I believe that it is because of these friends that I've gained only 20+ pounds, and not 60. Because that's what I've done every single other time that I lost weight: I regained it and then some. But, this time, will be, with God's help, the last time that I lose this weight! So, I'm ready for Monday. I'll actually continue to do the best that I can in my choices for this weekend, but Monday is THE DAY. Challenges will start. Accountability will be picked up. With all of this in mind: breakfast is ready! Coffee and tea are out, and there's plenty of water. Fruit for the am fruit eaters: frozen bananas, apples and pears. For the am carb eaters: our BELOVED ELF has left her oatmeals -- plain, flavored and flaxseed. Well, Sweet Sisters, you wonder BRASSY BROADS, I hope that everyone has a great day!

Yea, this is kinda how I feel this morning. I guess I just didn't sleep well last night. I honestly feel hung over - but I can't even tell you the last time I had a drink. Oh well. Cool, we can post in color I like this green - kinda matches the fuzzy guy, don't you think? Sierra is being Elmo for Halloween this year. She picked it out all by herself. Clayton's mom took her to a costume shop and let her choose whatever costume she wanted. We were surprised that with all those choices she still came home with Elmo - which had been her choice way before we even started thinking about Halloween. I am going to have to look for that Febreeze thing, Melissa. I am so bad with candles - I forget to blow them out - that I only burn tealights anymore. Safer that way. 6 hours later, they are done. But the plug in thing sound neat. I had those "Plug-Ins" before and they really didn't impress me, but that was over 10 years ago, so I guess it is safe to assume that they have perfected them a little since then. Carol - I found my CD's - all of them. I found the Success Strategy CD's burried in the VHS tapes box and my SMART CD's were waaaaaay under my bed collecting dust. Now I just have to get a new walkman (the kids claimed mine when they noticed I wasn't using it anymore, and needless to say, since it wasn't theirs to begin with, they didn't care how they treated it). I think I am going to have them buy me a new one What kind of candle smells do you like Dona? I think I can accommodate just about any taste (or should I say smell?) I am ordering the holiday scents - candy cane, bayberry, balsam and spice, etc. I am trying to stay away from the "baked goods" smells. Although they say aromatherapy is a good cure for cravings. Sometimes just smelling it triggers the brain into being satisfied. Maybe I will give it a try. Well, I still have a ton of homework to do for tomorrow, so I am going to get started on that. I will work on my intro, too. Be back later. Have a great day

Hello. My name is Cathy, and I want to start NBU. One of you gals, Donna? or someone caught me over on another board and invited me over. May I join you until NBU starts? I can use all the help I can get, since I am starting over again. I think this is day 3 back on track (for the most part). I am still struggling with getting enough water, but I am hopeful. Thanks for being here. Cathy

Hello, We made it home. We are proud owners of two more motors and some gas tanks. You will love this. Jack wanted this one marathone gas tank. So I told Lex to go ahead and keep track of it. It was all done silent action. So she did a great job. This one guy kept out bidding her. And she gave him her evil look. But it didn't help. And these other two men who were standing there whispered to her they wouldn't outbid such a pretty young girl. She got so embarrassed. It was funny. Well we ran out of time and had to be back for the other two kids and Tyson. So I never made it to the casino. I was really bummed. But Dh felt quitly I guess so next weekend we are going back and spend the entire night there. So I guess that works. lol Either that or he felt kinda guilty about spending so much on the motors and stuff. But there were good deals and rare finds. No he is only mislsing one motor for his collection. And he will have the whole racing series. OK tomorrow when I have more time I will have my intro ready and my profile brought up to date and be ready for MOnday. And the the new and improved me. Enjoy your Sat night love Dona

The life you create Sometimes you can make life much more difficult by attempting to make it too easy. Sometimes the shortcuts you seek end up being a lot more trouble than they're worth. Often, in trying to avoid work, you can create even more work for yourself. Often, in seeking to avoid an unpleasant or inconvenient truth, you give even more power, influence and recognition to that truth. Taking the easy way out is rarely that easy. For when you avoid the effort and commitment in life, you end up missing out on the real value. The more willingly, lovingly and enthusiastically you make the effort, the more value that effort will bring. The more time you commit to making a difference, the more magnificent your world will be. Instead of looking for ways to avoid work, look for ways to make that work more productive and more meaningful. Instead of seeking to hide from the truth, learn to align yourself with its power. Be always anxious to give your best to life. For the life you create is the life you will live. -- Ralph Marston The "Fivettes" I want to tell you about a group of women that back in the 40's all went to nursing school...joined the Navy and became friends. When all was said and done they each left the Navy...married...had kids and continued to be the best of friends. They were spread out but kept in touch via US Mail. What they started was a "Round Robin" letter. Each person would write a letter...throw it in an envelope and pass it on to the next in line. So when the envelope came back there would be 5 letters in the envelope from each of "The Fivettes". At times it would take months to get that envelope...sometimes it made it back a little faster. Pictures at times were sent along too to show off new babies...a new house...or even a new car. These ladies had stories to tell...recipes to exchange...love to express...and also many a tears were shed over the years. My mom is one of these wonderful ladies. She's been sending that letter as long as I can remember. There was one named "O" ( for Olesco) who used to upset my mom when she got the envelope...her letters were no more then a few sentences while the others wrote page after page. We'd all sit around the kitchen table as my mom would break from the days activities to read each and every one. A smile on her face as she would take in every word. At times she's laugh...or rub a tear from her eye but she seemed to be transformed to another person after she found that letter in the mail. She'd share it's contents with my dad...and later on with each of us. We'd ask her "who's this" or "who's that" but over the years knew who they were...where they lived...and that "O" never wrote much....!!! Over the years there were a few trips I remember where my parents flew to meet up with the others for a reunion and would come back and talk about how wonderful it was to see them all and what a great time they had. I missed my mom when she was gone but knew when she came back...she was so happy to have been able to go see her friends again. It's hard now to fathom that out of all of these ladies that 4 are still alive. "O" passed away years ago from cancer. Most of the spouses are gone now but these ladies still write their letters after 60 years now. I think of this friendship that's weathered all those years. Letter...after letter...after letter. How long they waited for "that" envelope to arrive. At times it was only two or three times a year but it was anticipated like Christmas. Now I look at the friends I've made here and how wonderful it is that we've all become such good friends. How each and every day I get up and run to the computer before I head for the shower to see what Melissa's posted after I've gone to bed. What Carol's set out for breakfast. To see what Dona's written to make me smile so hard my face hurts...for Gretchen to amaze me with all that she does and to be surprised and smile when I see Jan stop by to say hello. We've hung in there...we've laughed and even cried. We've supported each other and stood by each other like we would a sister. I am so proud to know all of you...and I love you all....!!! I've slipped but I know I can get back up with your support. Like Carol said..without you all here what little weight I've gained back is nothing compared to what I would have if not for all of you here by my side. Thank you...thank you...thank you....!!!! Cathy ~ You're more then welcome to join our group. This is one hell of a group of wonderful ladies here. We've been through a lot together but we're all still here fighting the fight to get the job done...lol. Terry ~ If you're out there...you're welcome to come home too...!!!! I'm off to fall into bed and catch up on some more rest. I'm tired by 9:00 and it's nice to be catching up on some sleep. Melissa's BDay is tomorrow. I can't believe my little girl will be 26 year's old tomorrow. She's still feeling a little sick and now Kasey seems to be coming down with it too....lol. Oye....!!! Chicken soup all around...hehee. I love you ladies ~ Tina

Thank you for the warm and wonderful welcome. I appreciate it greatly. I remember the support I had when I left provida several years ago, and I miss that. I lost 60 lbs with the help and support of wonderful women like yourselves. I am ready to do it again. Today's report in: Food was totally on track. It is getting easier to stay away from the no-no foods. Cravings are subsiding for the most part. Next goal is to increase my water intake to the 100 oz required. Step 2. I will work on that tomorrow. Exercise still eludes me, but that will be the next hurdle. Have a great night everyone! Cathy

Good Morning, BRASSY BROADS!!! OK, inch by inch, I'm getting back on track! CATHY, it was so nice to see your note, here in the kitchen, when I got up this morning. I just want to say again: WELCOME!!! It looks like you'll be a perfect addition to our group -- we've all been successful, then struggled, then gained back some weight, but are NEVER GIVING UP. TINA, I loved your story about the Fivettes. And: Yes, that's exactly what I do first thing in the morning, too: check out what everyone's been doing since I last posted. Happy Birthday to Melissa, and I hope that Kasey doesn't get what the two of you have just recovered from. DONA, I loved what you wrote. Starting from scratch. I think that's what we're all doing. GRETCHEN, if I don't say this enough, please know that I'm thinking it. TINA hit the nail on the head: you are amazing with all that you do: mom of three, full time job, full time back to school, and weight-loss success. And we know how much time and energy that takes! MELISSA, you, too. Mom of two, part-time single parent when Mike is away, full-time job, just packing up an old house and moving to a new one. And ditto: we all know/remember how much time and energy that takes, too! JAN, I'm going to Bill's church this morning -- pastor appreciation day. And we both met with his pastor yesterday morning to talk about Gwyn's issues. Anyway, I'll be saying a prayer for you this morning. I know that your surgery will go great. Coffee and tea are out, and there's plenty of water. CATHY, you're not the only one who's struggling with the 100 oz. I just don't get it, sometimes. There have been months -- maybe seasons, maybe even years -- when 100 oz seems normal, when it's not an issue at all. And, since school started two months ago, I seem to be having a horrible time getting my water in. That's going to be on my list of things to accomplish this week: Water. Fruit is out for the am fruit eaters: apples, pears and frozen bananas. And for the am carb eaters: our BELOVED ELF has made her oatmeals -- plain, flavored and flaxseed. By the way, speaking of MELISSA and unpacking: I've been unpacking stuff in our new kitchen and I found our old mugs! MELISSA, yours is the one with the moose on it; TINA, yours is the one with the beautiful sunset (I found it next to the Constant Comment tea); mine is the one with the quilt design on it. DONA, couldn't find yours, and JAN, yours is missing too. So, Ladies, tell me what to look for, and I'll search in the kitchen again. Also, CATHY, please describe your favorite mug for us. Either leave it on the counter or the dish drainer with ours -- or, if you can't find it, tell us about it, and maybe one of us has the perfect one for you! OK, so, on to church and then to Bill's. He'll be watching a football game this afternoon, and I think that I'll do some cleaning at his house. And some throwing away of stuff. I won't stay for dinner, though. Want to get home early enough to see my friend Suzanne's new dog. She has two Shih Tzu's and is adopting a rescue dog today: a three year old Brussels Gryphon. (Don't know spelling, don't know pronunciation.) Anyway, this is a rescue dog because the other dog with whom it's living is beating it up terribly. The other dog: a chihouha. (Ok, I already talked about spelling.) Well, BRASSY BROADS, I hope that everyone has a great day! PS MELISSA, thanks again for starting this thread. And Especially that you made us all in capital letters -- it makes us so easy to find in the morning when scrolling down that list!

Good morning Brassy Broads! Hi Cathy! I am glad you found us. We can and will get through this journey together supporting each other every step of the way. Sounds like you had fun Dona. I really hate to say this, but the one thing I miss about my ex is learning about cars. Our first date was spent rebuilding the engine in his Chevelle. I should have just played the "girly-girl" card and kept my hands clean, but that just isn't me. The dirtier, the better. Oh well, I learned a lot and it has saved me more than once with the sleezy mechanics that I have taken my cars to... Great story Tina. I know we are going to be together for a very long time. Hopefully some day we can plan something and get us all together. How is the unpacking going Melissa? We went to a friend's house last weekend and they had a huge flat screen TV on their wall and I thought of you. Clayton was drooling - just not sure how we can fit something like that in our budget. I think I am going in to meet with my boss tomorrow about a raise. I have been psyching myself up to do this for a while and now that I have taken over the bills (Clayton miss the due dates on a couple credit cards-not good), I can only re-arrange and put off certain things for a little while longer. I hear you about the water Carol. 100 oz used to be no problem. I had my 32 oz bottle with 4 rubberbands around it. Each time I filled it, I move another rubberband. Now I am lucky if I even finish one 32 oz bottle. I am going to make that my first obtainable goal - 100oz of water every day. Prayers for you Jan with your surgery. Gotta run - I still have a lot of homework to finish. I'll catch you all later.

Asparagus Soup __________________________________________________________________________ From member magicalkisses1954 This is NOT an original recipe, but I found it tonight in a magazine and thought I'd share it with you. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds yummy! 14 oz can nsa chicken broth 1 cup coarsely chopped sweet onion (BMOS Note: Examples of sweet onions include Vidalia, Walla Walla, Sweet Imperial, Texas Spring Sweet, Texas 1015Y, Carzalia Sweet, Oso Sweet, Arizona, Granex, and Maui onions. ) 1 small potato, peeled, cut in 1 inch chunks ½ cup water ¼ teaspoon pepper 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 pound) tough ends trimmed, spears cut in quarters Bring all ingredients except asparagus to a boil in a medium saucepan. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 10 minutes or until potato is almost tender. Add asparagus; cook 5 minutes until asparagus and potato are tender. Set aside 10 minutes to cool slightly. Puree soup in blender until smooth. How easy is that and boy does it look good! Compatible with Body Type: Breakfast A-C-D-E Morning Snack C-E Lunch A-B-C-D-E Afternoon Snack B-C-D Dinner A-B-C-D-E PM Snack This Recipe Contains: Carb A, Free Veggies Creamy Asparagus Soup __________________________________________________________________________ From member tuttle Printed from www.care2.com Creamy Asparagus Soup Inspired by Going Wild in the Kitchen, by Leslie Cerier Asparagus has the spring-like taste that we start to crave this time of year: its lovely color and fresh appeal are just what we need to get past the late winter blahs. This soup is an especially tasty offering: cauliflower adds its cancer-fighting nutrition, and there is plenty of healthful garlic to ward off colds and flu. Springtime flavor and creaminess without dairy, right here: 6 cups water/nsa chicken broth 8 cloves garlic, thickly sliced 1 cup coarsely chopped onions ½ teaspoon dill seeds 2 cups bites-sized cauliflower florets 1 cup coarsely chopped celery 4 cups asparagus cut into 1-inch pieces 2 tablespoons dried basil 2 tablespoons dried thyme 1 bay leaf juice of 1 lemon, optional In a teakettle or small pot, bring water to a boil. In a large soup pot, using a bit of water or broth sauté the garlic, onions, dill seeds, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes, until onions begin to soften and ingredients are fragrant. Add cauliflower and celery and continue to sauté 5 minutes more, until celery is bright green and cauliflower has begun to soften. Add boiling water/broth to pot along with asparagus, basil, thyme, and bay leaf. Bring ingredients to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer soup 10 minutes, or until cauliflower is tender. Remove and discard bay leaf. Puree soup in batches in blender or with a hand-held immersion blender, until smooth. If desired, add lemon juice. Return to pot and heat through. Serve piping hot. Compatible with Body Type: Breakfast Morning Snack Lunch A-B-C-D-E Afternoon Snack Dinner A-B-C-D-E PM Snack This Recipe Contains: Veggie A, Free Veggies Tuscan Tomato Soup __________________________________________________________________________ From member PatriciaWines. I love this recipe and it takes just a few minutes to prepare. 1 teaspoon minced garlic or 1 clove garlic, minced 32 oz canned nsa diced tomatoes, undrained 28 oz canned nsa chicken broth 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil 1 teaspoon nsa Italian seasoning Chopped fresh parsley Add the garlic to a hot pan until fragrant - just a few seconds. Add tomato, broth, vinegar, basil and Italian seasoning. Stir to combine. Simmer 15 to 20 minutes on med-low heat to thicken. Garnish with parsley. If you prefer "cream-style" tomato soup, you can blend this, but the big chunks of tomato are so satisfying. If using kidney beans, ** rinse and add; then let simmer for another 15 minutes. If you want, omit the beans** and add your portion of cooked chicken or shrimp in your bowl instead. Very thin slices of chicken or beef (that we use for Chinese fondue) is perfect and easy to portion correctly. I portion my soup in individual Glad plastic bowls and keep in the freezer for few months. I add the chicken or shrimp or beef only at the last moment when I serve it. Compatible with Body Type: Breakfast Morning Snack Lunch A-B-C-D-E Afternoon Snack Dinner A-B-C-D-E PM Snack This Recipe Contains: Veggie A, Free Veggies Tomato Rice Soup __________________________________________________________________________ From member Melissa78. This is the easiest simplest soup that I'm sure you'll enjoy! It has been passed down from my grandmother... I pretty much grew up on it! BMOS Note: As originally posted in 2003, this recipe included the off-program ingredients of tomato juice and minute rice. To keep the recipe completely on-plan, I've made the substitutions below. 1 small onion, chopped 1 cup water ½ cup nsa chicken broth ¼ cup uncooked rice ¼ cup nsa tomato sauce mixed with ¼ cup water 1 teaspoon fresh parsley additional nsa broth as needed for sautéing, optional Sauté onions until golden in small amount of nsa broth or water. Add 1 cup water and ½ cup chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add rice and let cook till rice is done. Add tomato sauce mixture, bring to boil and add parsley. Compatible with Body Type: Breakfast A-C-D-E Morning Snack C-E Lunch A-B-C-D-E Afternoon Snack B-C-D Dinner A-B-C-D-E PM Snack This Recipe Contains: Carb B, Free Veggies Mexican Chicken Soup __________________________________________________________________________ From member labgirl1 It's cold and rainy out here in Texas, so I wanted some soup for lunch. I had a lot of leftover chicken, and wanted to use up that. I adapted a Tortilla Soup recipe that I love, and it came out pretty well. I like things pretty spicy, so you may want to back off of the cayenne and chile powder just a bit. With 16 oz. of chicken, I divided mine into 8 tupperwares...I added 1/2 cup of rice to mine (not quite as good as tortillas, but it'll do!) for a complete meal. Like all soups, it should taste even better the next day (and will probably be a bit spicier too). From The Monarch Kitchen 1 medium onion, diced 3 cloves garlic, minced 2½ tablespoons cumin, preferably freshly ground 1½ tablespoons nsa chili powder 1½ teaspoons cayenne 2 (14.5 oz) cans nsa diced tomatoes 3 cups nsa chicken broth, preferably homemade 16 ounces cooked chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces ½ cup fresh cilantro, chopped Preheat large (3 quart) pot over medium-high heat. Add onions and garlic, and cook for 3-5 minutes, until onions are translucent. Use a bit of chicken broth to keep onions from sticking to the pot. Add tomatoes and chicken broth, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer, and add chicken. Simmer for 20 minutes. Stir in cilantro, and simmer for 5 minutes more. Oh - one last thing. You don't HAVE to use freshly ground cumin, but it tastes so much better if you do. You can buy whole cumin (comino) seeds and grind them up in your coffee grinder. I think the fresh cilantro is a must though - the dried stuff just isn't the same... Compatible with Body Type: Breakfast A-B-C-D-E Morning Snack A-B-C-D-E Lunch A-B-C-D-E Afternoon Snack A-B-C-D-E Dinner A-B-C-D-E PM Snack A-D-E This Recipe Contains: Protein B, Free Veggies Chicken and Rice Soup __________________________________________________________________________ From member Rissywill1997.I came up with this recipe that is great to bring to lunch when you have to work. I hope you all enjoy it! 4 cups nsa chicken broth (it's best to make your own) 2 medium carrots, thinly sliced 1 large onion, diced 1 stalk of celery, thinly sliced 1 cup uncooked white rice 1 lb chicken breast 2 tablespoons black pepper to taste (this can be modified to taste) 3 cups of water In a small pot, bring 3 cups of water and the chicken to a boil. When chicken is completely cooked, set it aside, take a fork and shred it into small pieces. In a separate pot, add chicken broth, onion, carrots, celery and rice. Bring it to a boil. Once it is at a boil, bring the heat down to a simmer. Simmer until the vegetables are soft and the rice is completely cooked. Add pepper and chicken. Cook for 5 minutes more. Compatible with Body Type: Breakfast Morning Snack Lunch A-B-C-D-E Afternoon Snack Dinner A-B-C-D-E PM Snack This Recipe Contains: Protein B, Carb B, Veggie A, Free Veggies I've just reformatted this recipe today, to do away with the 2 cups chicken business because it isn't really in keeping with the way we measure proteins-- in normal every day cooking, it would be fine, but for purposes of this program it's confusing, as you found. Yes, what I was suggesting is that you scoop out with a spoon (a slotted one would be good, since it'll help drain contents) some of the soup contents and put it on the scale. Measure out 2 oz. Then, do the same thing again, but this time put enough contents in a measuring cup to come out with 1/2 cup. If you were doing this with a recipe which had tons of free veggies, you might even add another 1/2 cup, but this one doesn't have much veggie, so forget that step. That's basically your portion, but you can go ahead and add more broth to your plate because that's considered a freebie. This is wonderful soup! I made it and added a bay leaf for extra flavor! Wonderful ! I tried this recipe. Two tablespoons of pepper is a bit stout for me. My husband loved it. I modified the recipe to a couple of shakes of pepper, 1/2 teaspoonful of garlic, and a can of no salt diced tomatoes. Yummy!!! About the rice serving size...It may be easier to just make the soup without the rice and then add 1/2 cup cooked rice to it whenever you're ready to eat it. And if you want to try something a little different, try jasmine rice. It's a really fragrant rice from Thailand and it's just really different. It smells awesome and it's a nice change of pace Roasted Tomato Soup __________________________________________________________________________ From member PandoRRa. I have a tomato soup recipe that I really like. I wouldn't say it tastes like Campbell's, but it is tasty. It is made with all free ingredients too, so I have made it to add to a meal to help fill me up. 3 lbs ripe tomatoes, cored, seeded and halved 2 red onions, chopped 1 clove garlic, minced 3 cups nsa chicken broth 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil fresh ground black pepper to taste Preheat broiler. Place tomatoes on nonstick baking sheet, cut side down (BMOS Note: or line conventional baking sheet Release Foil, which may be found in alongside conventional foils and plastic wraps in the market.) Broil for 10-12 minutes, or until the skins are blistered and blackened. Let cool, then slip off skins. In a medium sized saucepan, heat a little chicken stock or water over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 2 additional minutes or until onions are softened. In a food processor, combine tomatoes and onions; process until smooth. Return to saucepan and add chicken stock; bring to a boil then reduce to simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in basil and season with pepper. This is a wonderful soup that is great for those cold autumn nights. Goes great with roasted chicken breast and a fresh salad. Enjoy! 1 large butternut squash 4-6 cloves garlic fresh cracked pepper Mrs. Dash Onion Medley ¼ cup water 29 oz nsa chicken broth ¼ teaspoon nutmeg ½ teaspoon cinnamon 1-2 teaspoon butter extract Preheat oven to 350º. Carefully cut squash in half from top to bottom. Scoop out seeds and stringy membrane. Sprinkle flesh with pepper and Mrs. Dash. Place squash (flesh side down) on a large cookie sheet. Place garlic next to squash. Pour water onto cookie sheet. Put in oven and bake for 45-60 minutes until squash is fork tender. Remove from oven and allow to cool for about ten minutes. Meanwhile, simmer chicken broth in a Dutch oven pan until hot. Turn squash over and scoop out pulp being careful not to get the skin. Place in a large mixing bowl. Take 4-6 cloves roasted garlic and squeeze each clove into the squash. Add about 1 cup of hot broth and mash all together. Add the squash mixture to the rest of the broth and gently stir until all the broth is incorporated. Add the nutmeg, cinnamon and butter extract. Stir to combine. Heat until hot. This really tastes like it's made with cream and butter! No one ever believes this is a healthy recipe! 1 small onion, chopped 3-4 medium zucchini or 3 broccoli crowns 5 cups nsa vegetable stock or water ½ cup oats 2 tablespoons parsley Mrs. Dash, to taste Sauté onion until translucent. (BMOS Note: You may do this either in a nonstick pan, relying upon the natural moisture of the onion, or you may add a bit of nsa broth.) Add remaining ingredients. Simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are cooked. Run through blender until smooth and serve. I like some chunks in my cream of broccoli soup, so I take out some of the broccoli before I puree and then add them back after.
