    BEGIN AGAIN, LOSE AGAIN… TOGETHER!

For those of us who have lost pounds and inches on this great program, and then for whatever reason, gained it back… we need to BEGIN AGAIN, LOSE AGAIN… TOGETHER!

This thread is for all of us who “know the ins-and-outs” of the 6wbmo program and/or the SMART Techniques, and want a group to help “put it into practice” in our daily, yes, even “hourly” lives.

We all need accountability, we all need motivation, we all need inspiration and we all need education on our journey towards a healthier lifestyle. We can get all that and more here in the BEGIN AGAIN thread.

I have led many groups here in Providaland, side-by-side with my best bud, Kansan (Kathleen), but this thread is a bit different, it’s more “personal”, I suppose, because it is for ME, and for YOU, if you want to BEGIN AGAIN.

10 Guidelines for the BEGIN AGAIN thread…

    1. All are welcome to “lose again” with us, here in the BEGIN AGAIN thread. Just because this thread started in June of 2009, doesn't mean it's too late to join. Jump on in, the more the merrier!
    2. We hope you will want to “post daily” to provide fun on-plan conversations with everyone. If you can't post daily, please let us know when you can post next. This is really important to maintain conversations and relationships.
    3. If you fall off plan, please do not fall off posting. This is so important. If you continue to post, you can get encouragement, you can find motivation, you can ask for help, you can jump back in faster than if you just "run away and hide".
    4. No “off plan food names” mentioned. This is vital to prevent everyone’s “mind’s eye” from “seeing” off plan foods they may tempt them. If you need to talk about off plan foods, just use the word “ick”, and that will get the point across without being specific.
    5. All activities and challenges are “optional”, pick and choose what is beneficial for you. Please let us know if there is something specific you would like to see or do here.
    6. Please keep the “majority of your post” about “the plan”, although we do hope everyone will want to share about their daily lives as well.
    7. We believe “the plan works, if you work the plan… as written”. For this reason, we do NOT “tweak” the plan, and hope you do not as well.
    8. The term POP is for “Perfectly On Plan” and the term FOP is for “Falling Off Plan”. Since we don’t believe in tweaking, that means to POP you must eat 5-6 meals per day, spaced properly, with correct portions of the correct types of food for your body type. Please do not say you POPed for a day that you ate a fruit D or an off-plan carb at dinner.
    9. Remember… we are here because we “gained back our lost weight and now resolve to lose it again”…so to LOSE AGAIN, we have two mottos… Begin Again, Lose Again... Together! and "Girl, you know what to do, stop playing and get serious, Period!”.
    10. HAVE FUN, be an encourager and get encouraged!

I thought I might as well introduce myself first, then you will know more about me, before you jump on the thread, lol. Kathleen will be around Monday to introduce herself.

If you would like to BEGIN AGAIN... let's get aquainted!

    10 "Get Aquainted" Questions:

    1. Provida Name:
    Susan3650
    2. Name I would like to be called: Susan
    3. Family, occupation, state located, hobbies:

My husband, Bob, and I have been married for 23 years. We have three adopted children... James 13, Jennifer 19 and Walter 27. Walter is married to Amanda and they have twin boys, Logan and Zachary, 2-1/2 years old.

I have been a SAHM (Stay-At-Home-Mom) for most of the last 19 years. My profession is photography, typesetting, advertising, graphics arts, business owner.

I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Probably will never move from here. (I lived in Whittier, AK for four years as a teen, besides that, lived in Anchorage all of my life)

My hobbies are jetskiing, photography, relaxing in Cancun Mexico, Coaching Bible Bowl with Teens in my church. Helping special-needs kids.

    4. Provida Weightloss History (When I started? what weight I started at? how much did I lose? how much did I gain back? how much do I want to lose?):

I started November 26, 2002, reaching goal of losing 40 lb. 364 days later (less than one year! lol)

I stayed Living Lean for more than a year and was on the SMART Techniques Infomercial in December 2004 (Met BMOS Dolores and Mary Holmes in Hollywood!!!).

I gradually gained most of my weight back, losing some before vacations, but gaining while on vacations and upon returning. Being an "emotional eater" and having a very stressful and busy life... I would re-commit daily/weekly/monthly/yearly, but just couldn't make my "resolve" concrete, which is what getting/staying at goal requires.

145 lb. is My "Provida" start weight, November 27, 2002
135 lb. is My "Begin Again" start weight, June 22, 2009
105 lb. is My "Goal" weight, November 26, 2003 and before 2009 ends!

    5. Provida groups/threads I have been involved in:
I started on the "SMART Techniques" side of the forum, in the end of 2002
Then was involved in the original Boot Camp in 2003.
Co-Led NBU in 2004 with Kathleen
Co-Led many Monarch threads 2005-2009 (Kitchen, Chapel, Sanctuary, Cocoon, Colony, Courtyard)
Co-Led Journaling Through The Journey and SMART threads

    6. Provida program I'm on (6wbmo, SMART, both): Both
I started as a SMARTie only, then realized I needed more structure, which the 6weekers had, so I became involved in both programs. Really, the "best of both worlds"!

    7. Area I find the easiest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking):
The easiest part of this plan is "eating" the food. You noticed I didn't say "cooking" the food though... If I had a chef to prepare my meals, it would be a snap. I can eat the food fine, just have huge hurdles to "cooking".

    8. Area I find the hardest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking):
I explained above... "Cooking" is very difficult for me, always has been. Another problem I have is the very busy life I lead. It's so much easier to "stop somewhere" than to cook at home. And lastly, being an "emotional eater" is a big problem as well.

    9. Biggest motivator/reason to "Begin Again and Lose Again":
My motivation is to get back to goal because I was there in 2003-2004, and I'm on an infomercial promoting weight loss. I felt better, I looked better, I was healthier, my clothes were cute, my blood-work numbers were better, my posture was better, my self-esteem and self-confidence were better. I have the "motivation"... I just have to make my "resolve"... that stead-fast decision of "no matter what, I will do everything it takes, period".

    10. How often do I plan to post here in this group?
I'm on the computer on and off all day. I read my emails on my cell-phone, but can't post until I get to my laptop. Being in Alaska, I don't get on as early as most of you, but I am up later than most of you.

I hope I didn't scare any of you away with my lengthy answers! Don't feel like you have to be as wordy as I. I just felt the more you know about me, the easier it would be to decide if this is the thread for you.

Looking forward to meeting all who want to BEGIN AGAIN!

If you would like to BEGIN AGAIN... let's get aquainted!

    10 "Get Aquainted" Questions:

    1. Provida Name: Jules250

    2. Name I would like to be called: Jules

    3. Family, occupation, state located, hobbies:  I have 3 grow children.  The oldest daughter is a funeral director.  The second daughter moved out to ND and is doing well (excited that she was "the 1st" to be completely independant).  My son is living with his dad and working fulltime at Target.  He is thinking about going back to school.

I work in a hospital laboratory as an MT.  I do mostly afternoon shift.

Hobbies include sewing (all types) and  reading.  I'm also in the midst of a major home improvement project.

    4. Provida Weightloss History (When I started? what weight I started at? how much did I lose? how much did I gain back? how much do I want to lose?):  I began my journey back in July of 2006.  I was 250 and lost 75 pounds.  I was within reach of goal.  Then I started having issues with asthma.  Over the next couple of years I tried to stay OP but found it increasingly difficult to stand long enough to cook.  It got to the point where I would have to rest while microwaving a frozen meal.  I gained it all back plus a little extra.
I'm finally on the road to recovery.  I've been POP for 6 days and seeing excellent results already.  I'm doing limited cardio, but stop at the first sign of distress (I don't want to go that route again).

    5. Provida groups/threads I have been involved in:  NBU, Soul Sisters, and various others that stopped.

    6. Provida program I'm on (6wbmo, SMART, both): 6wbmo

    7. Area I find the easiest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking):  water!

    8. Area I find the hardest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking):  cardio, toning

    9. Biggest motivator/reason to "Begin Again and Lose Again":  I felt so good having all the excess weight off.  I want to be there again.  My asthma was under control for the first time in a long time and I want that again.  (Breathing may be over rated, but you feel much better when breathing well.)

    10. How often do I plan to post here in this group?  daily
Susan, I've been looking for another home that will be both supportive and encouraging again.  I think I've seen you around the threads for awhile.  Thank you for starting this one.

My hobbies include medieval needlepoint, reading, and gardening.

    4. Provida Weightloss History (When I started? what weight I started at? how much did I lose? how much did I gain back? how much do I want to lose?): I started 6WBMO in July of 2007 and met goal in November 2007. I started at 164 and got down to 128 pounds. I have gained back 12 pounds over the past year and one half. I'd like to get back down to at least 130, which is 10 pounds.

    10. How often do I plan to post here in this group? Daily on weekdays, sporadically on the weekends.

Jules, 6 days POP and you have seen results, that is great! Yes, I've been around the threads, NBU and so forth. You will sense a slight "NBU feel" to my posts and activites. Kathleen and I believe in "listen, care, show em what to do". I'm looking forward to Beginning Again with you!

Holly, ahhh, a SMARTie/6weeker! Are you currently "listening to lose"? I haven't listened to Mary in awhile, gonna have to get the batteries changed in my cd player. That's great that you reached goal in four months back in 2007. You can do it again Holly, just gotta get your "resolve" back. I'm looking forward to "shaking things up" with you as we "go for goal again" together!

    10 "Get Aquainted" Questions:

    1. Provida Name:
    o2baslimlady

    2. Name I would like to be called:  Jan

    3. Family, occupation, state located, hobbies:

My husband and I have been married for 41 years and are both retired. We live in Northwest Florida. I retired in 2004.  When I was working I was in Public Affairs for the Army Corps of Engineers.  We have two sons and they live in Virginia and Georgia.  We have one beautiful granddaughter, Grace and of course our cat, Snickers.   My hobbies are pastel painting and tri-loom weaving.  I also love to read and of course play on computers.

    4. Provida Weightloss History (When I started? what weight I started at? how much did I lose? how much did I gain back? how much do I want to lose?):
Let’s see, I’ve been around for a very long time.  Unfortunately I haven’t been on plan for a lot of that time.  In 2001 I started and lost weight until I looked pretty good, then gained it back.  Then off and on until 2005 when I joined for real and was in Journaling Through the Journey.  With the help of these threads and more importantly Kathleen and Susan, I was able to loose down to 143, which was only 3 pounds above goal.  Unfortunately I went back to work for a short time and started the process of gaining it back.

Last May, after reaching the 200 mark,  I once again quit playing and started loosing again, down to 160 in November.  Of course over Christmas I started eating again.  So now I’m around 185 and starting again.

    5. Provida groups/threads I have been involved in:

Journaling Through the Journey, Monarchs.  Others for a very short time, but not truly satisfactory.

    6. Provida program I'm on (6wbmo, SMART, both):   I’m on 6wbmo and maybe I should start the SMART tapes too.  I have them.

    7. Area I find the easiest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking):  Water

    8. Area I find the hardest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking):Toning -- I'm going to do Yoga.

    9. Biggest motivator/reason to "Begin Again and Lose Again":
I liked the way I looked and felt when I lost the weight.  Last year when I was down to 160 all my medical numbers were really good.  When I’m slim my feet don’t hurt.  Of course when I’m managing my weight properly the most important thing is the way I feel about myself, my self-esteem.  Now I have none.  Must work on that.

    10. How often do I plan to post here in this group?
    Every day.

One other little note.  When I began successfully in 2005 I was so excited because Susan and Kathleen had just started a new thread, Journaling Thru the Journey.  Now again in 2009 they are starting another new thread, and here I am again.  Thank you guys.

If you would like to BEGIN AGAIN... let's get aquainted!

    10 "Get Aquainted" Questions:

    1. Provida Name:
    Kansan

    2. Name I would like to be called:  Kathleen

    3. Family, occupation, state located, hobbies:  My children are grown--I have five.  Also 4 sons-in-law and 9 grandchildren with #10 due in Oct.  I'm in Kansas, southcentral just north of Wichita.  No active hobbies--I have done some family history, but not for a while.

    4. Provida Weightloss History (When I started? what weight I started at? how much did I lose? how much did I gain back? how much do I want to lose?):  Started Dec 15, 2003.  Lost as much as 140# but have gained some back--working on getting back there again.  Doc wants me to lose another 75-100# so I can have my knee replacement surgery.

    5. Provida groups/threads I have been involved in:  Started with NBU, then moved into doing the Monarch threads with Susan and Jan.  I also participate in the "Geterdone Gang" thread for over 50's.

    6. Provida program I'm on (6wbmo, SMART, both):  I have both--it's been a while since I did the SMART program consistently.  Always appreciate a good reminder!

    7. Area I find the easiest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking):  The water was natural for me--always have been a big water drinker.  The cooking has been a challenge of late, but I have someone to help me now with that.  The cardio and toning parts are off-limits for now, dr.'s orders.

    8. Area I find the hardest (food, water, cardio, toning, cooking): see above--guess I answered both 7 and 8 there! lol

Hello and good evening from Kansas!  Hope you all are cool and comfy!  First big heat wave of the year hit today--well over 100*!  Can't say it's my favorite time of year! lol

It's so exciting to see everyone here today.  Greetings to old friends Susan and Jan--and new friends, Holly, Jules and Jeanne!

I've read everyone's questionnaire--thanks so much for doing those.  It really helps us get acquainted fast.  I was struck once again, as I have been so many times over the years, at the vastness of this internet family--Provida.  Here we are only a half dozen and we have the country covered from east to west and north to south!  FL to AK to WV then KS and MO!  (Jules, read and reread and must have missed your state.)

I was also struck by the depth of understanding this group brings to the thread.  Among us we have 30 years of Provida experience.  That's impressive!

I'm sure with all that experience, each one will have much to share.  I see "motivation" and "inspiration" and "tips and tricks" as well as favorite recipes, cooking techniques, exercise routines and the all important ACCOUNTABILITY in our futures.

Susan and I hope that everyone feels comfortable sharing your favorite motivational articles, your great ideas for working the PLAN,  and your questions and answers.  We all learn from each other, we all are inspired by each other and we all benefit from the journey we share.

Once again, welcome, we're so pleased you are here!  It's going to be a great journey!

    Jan, Jeanne and Kathleen!

Jan, It's great seeing you here!!! We have the knowledge, the skills, the motivation and now the RESOLVE to work this plan as written to reach GOAL! FIGHT ON! We might be getting those SMART cd's out, you never know!

    Jeanne,
it's great having a TRUE LIVING LEANER with us here in the BEGIN AGAIN group. Welcome. You are a true example of how you can "Begin Again, Lose Again and then LIVE LEAN!" I was posting in Dolores' first challenge thread, but it didn't really "take" with me I guess, cuz I didn't lose any with that challenge. Today is different though, TODAY IS THE DAY!!

Kathleen, thanks for coming over with me to start this thread. I know the theme of "Begin Again" is going to help many many people lose those regained pounds (plus help you and I, as well. lol). We have always been a great team and I thank you for all the help you have given me running groups here in Providaland! :-)

    Kathleen,

sorry about that.  I was in a hurry to finish so I could leave for work and not be late.  I live in southeastern Michigan, about 25 miles from Detroit.

I had another good day.  The weather here is hot also, but not nearly as bad as some of you are getting.  The humidity in the 90's is wearing me out.

I'll check back tomorrow when I get up.

Good morning all! Yesterday was a good day. I was POP, got in all the water, and even rode the stationary bike for 35 minutes. As I stated in my initial post, cardio is my biggest challenge. I work 12-14 hour days and I'm not a morning person....at all.

Any tips on what you guys do to motivate yourselves to do cardio?

I started listening to SMART again about a week ago. I really enjoy the relaxation and it seems to be starting to work!

After a speech one day, Zig Ziglar was approached by someone in the audience who said:

"Zig, it was a great speech, but...motivation doesn't last."

Zig said, "Bathing doesn't either. That's why I recommend it daily!"

Holly, group classes work the best for me.  Today I managed 25 in a water aerobics class then had to leave because of the sun.  I finished up another 15 minutes in the indoor pool, but it wasn't nearly as effective.

I had another day POP and going strong.  Summer has finally hit with a vengence.  I don't relish the thought of turning on anything that produces heat.  However, if I don't cook up some protein, I'll be in bad shape by tonight.

Two reasons to stay on plan... when I get back on I the first week I get terrible "detox headaches" and "after-exercise soreness"!

Can anyone relate? Does anyone have any suggestions? HELP!

Today is #2 POP day for me, and water weight comes off fast they say... yesterday was 135.0 and today I am 133.6. That is 1.6 lb. in the first 24 hours. This is normal for me, and I know it's "water weight", but who cares WHAT it is... It's less weight my back and knees are carrying around  AND it's incentive to keep on going!

HOW IS EVERYONE ELSE DOING SO FAR?

Holly and Jules, high five for making your Mondays POPing and working out also!

Oh, for those of you who wish you weren't roasting in the summer heat.... we are sitting at 56* here. NOT warm even for Alaska. Would like to see it warm up to 70*. This Alaskan doesn't want any more heat than that tho!!!

Hi all!  How's your second day back OP going?

Susan, I see you are dealing with those detox headaches--sure hope it's a short round of it.  Not sure I've ever seen anything to do for them other than what you are already.  Maybe an ice pack later this evening, when you can lie down a bit?  Always worked for "other" headaches" as I remember! lol

Jules, thanks--MI--another state!  I can imagine what the weather there feels like with temps in the 90's and what must be high humidity for you so close to the lake.  I lived in Chicago "long time ago" and I very well remember the headline on the Chicago paper on Aug. 20, 1959!  "100* and 100% humidity!"  I can remember the date 'cause it's the day my youngest DB was born!  THAT was one hot summer!  Hope the rest of this one doesn't stay so hot!

Paula, hey great to see you!  I was making some notes and didn't see your body type in your profile.  Do I remember you are a "C?"  How's the job going?

Holly, I may not be the right person to answer your question about motivation for doing cardio, but I did have a thought.  Some people who use a treadmill or stationary bike, use videos or music to occupy the time.  I know Susan has a favorite program she finds helpful.  Years ago, when I did use a stationary bike, I watched a football game while on it!  Time passed quickly!

Jan, how ya doin' there in FL?  Has this heat reached you yet?  Are you painting much these days?  I had to show Cat my ornament--she's a would-be artist!  She loved it.  Is DH doing the plan with you this time?

Jeanne, did you have a good Tuesday?  I'm sure the heat has reached St. Louis--another place that can be incredibly humid also!  Visited there in the late summer of '91.  Loved it.  LL for over half a year!  Wonderful!  You'll have to share your "secrets" as we approach goal.  I've heard there isn't a lot of information on the threads about LL.

About ready to call it an evening.  Chicken's almost done--I decided to boil it this time, with some seasoning.  Makes great broth and I'll use that and the leftovers to make soup in a day or two.  I finally have some OKRA to go in it!  (Sorry, Susan--I'll have to dish up yours before I add the okra!)

I think it's a ballgame evening--Yanks are playing my Braves.  Looks like a good game.

    Have a great evening!

Yes, it is extremely hot and humid.  Walking outside for a few minutes and you feel like a wet rag.  I've been trying to stay in as much as possible.  Hopefully at least the humidity will let up soon.  It seems like we went from cool to rainy to steamy.  Oh well, that's St. Louis.

I've done great today.  I still have to get my cardio/toning in.

Glad everyone else is doing a good job too.

    Jeanne
