Welcome to the Biggest Losers' group! So far, we have some people weighing on Fridays and some on Mondays. Some of us have already started, some of us are waiting for our kits, and some of us are waiting until after Labor Day to start, but there is one thing we all have in common: We're ready to lose some weight!

If you haven't done so already in the Newbie folder (or if you want to refresh and update in this folder), tell us a little bit about yourself. We're happy to have you and hope you're looking forward to supporting each other as much as we are!

    Hello,
My name is Penny, I am soon to be 46 (in September), I am 5'4" and currently weigh 192 lbs.!!!!! Way too much for my height and small frame. I am fron Versailles, Indiana. I just got the program yesterday, and my start date is on Monday, August 28th. My goal is to lose 50 lbs. (to start), and if I reach that and feel like I need to lose a little more, then I will change my goal weight.
I had my daughter take pics of me on Thursday, some in a bikini I used to wear before I hit 40 (yeah, I'm one of those people that keep everything), and some in a one piece. I decided to post a pic of me in the 2 piece, as it doesn't cover up anything, and really shows what I needed it to show me...that I have gotten grossly fat!!
I knew I'd gained alot of weight after I hit 40, but always thought it could be covered up with clothing, and no one really knew how bad I looked....well, I think I fooled everyone else, but I knew better...so the pics really made me see reality, and get myself out of denial...I had gotten fat, and that's all there was to it, and it is time to do something about it once and for all!
My daughter is 23, and she is so supportive, and my fiance' is just as supportive, and I have asked him to help keep me on track, but he won't be mean about it, and it's not that I want him to be mean, but I would like him to be a little sarcastic, and I know he won't....but he will support me in this weight loss journey.
I am so glad we will have a bunch of us that are on the same wave length, all starting close to the same time, we may have different weight loss goals, and that is o.k., I believe it will be the daily interaction with each other that will help each of us attain our goals!
So, with that being said, thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Biggest Losers Group!
And for everyone else....welcome, welcome, welcome! Hugs to each and everyone of you!
One other thing, I encourage each and every one of you to take those "starting" pics, and measurements...don't be afraid or ashamed...this is the first time I've had a picture of me in a bikini since I was around 37...so if I can post a horrifying picture of myself to get myself motivated...then you can too! And, if you don't want to post a pic, then at least still take the pics (front, back, and each side view), and keep them for your eyes only, to look at when you get in a rut...it will make a huge difference!
Oh, ...since I am starting this on Monday, my weigh in days will be every Monday.

Hi Penny! What a wonderful and honest post you wrote. I know exactly what you mean about thinking you can hide under clothes!

I figured I should add my story to the thread too. In 2003, I underwent gallbladder surgery. No big, right? Well, somehow the doctors really screwed the surgery up and very nearly killed me. Obviously, I'm still here...but after that, my digestion system never worked quite right. That and the fact that I was flat on my back for 6 months, unable to walk made my poor metabolism almost grind to a stop. I gained 40lbs in one year without ever changing my eating habits from the way they were pre-surgery. It was a pretty devestating blow to my ego, being a young girl in university. Food became the enemy and slowly, I developed an eating disorder. I knew I was in serious trouble when I couldn't keep food down if I wanted to and confessed to my then-boyfriend (now husband). He got me help and with an amazing support system, I got over the bad part of the disease.

Of course, that was another strike against my already slow metabolism and I started gaining even more weight after I started eating again. All the weight I had lost came back, and more. I guess I kinda "gave up" at that point. My husband can eat whatever he wants to and not gain an ounce...and he also has quite an affinity for fast food. It wasn't hard for him to convince me to join him for a value meal more often that I should have. But now, I'm so ashamed of the way I look that any social life I've had since we moved 2,000 miles away from our hometown and all of our friends and family is gone. I hate going out, because I don't want people to see me. That's not a way to live, especially when I can change.

I really want to have a fun, social life back without always worrying about people seeing me as "the fat girl", which I undoubtedly am. And I don't want to have to worry about meeting all my husband's friends from work and fearing that they're thinking "why did her marry HER?" It may sound shallow, but it's honest. I also want to be healthy. I know I'm really putting myself at risk being this weight, and I want to live a long, healthy life. I'm tired of my back hurting so badly from my heavy breasts and my ankles and knees from supporting this heavy body.

So that's my story and I look forward to hearing yours and getting started with all of you!

    Hey guys!

I guess I should share a bit of my story here as well. I'm 16 and have been chubby all my life. However, it didn't start to get out of control until I entered high school. I began to go through some really rough times with my family which led to my mother and me turning to food for support and comfort. She was able to lose the weight she gained while I'm still stuck with it. I've yo-yo dieted my whole life and have yet to find an eating style that is successful. I'm hoping that with this program, I will be able to develop a healthy life style and drop all the excess weight I've accquired.

As elionwry said, I don't want to be the "fat girl" anymore either. A lot of people consider me an 'Old Soul' and I'm already on my way to becoming a journalist and have begun my own publication. I'm surrounded by people constantly and conducting interviews is always frustrating because I'm worried about my weight and my appearance. So, for once I'm going to be as serious as possible on this plan so I can begin my journey through life. Well, and because I can't wait to see the look on my ex-boyfriends face when he sees me six weeks from now.

    Best of luck to everyone!
    -Shannon-

Hello Ladies. There is something all familiar about your stories. I am turning 30 in November. I am 5'4" and as of Friday 217 pounds. I have 3 children and a husband of 13 years. I was never heavy in school, when I got married and started having kids things changed. Excuses are not getting me to loose the weight. The truth is I was lazy during and after each kid.
I also want to be able to see my husbands freinds and co-workers and have them think how lucky he is? Not shallow just truth. My husband has tried to help in the past by telling me about all the nice clothes that he will by me when I loose the wieght. I am not going to do this for him, this is for me and my future with him.
I do not ever want to hear "she has such a pretty face," what a slam. I want to match from head to toe.

    Stephanie

    Hi everyone,
I am very happy to be part of this group. I will also write my story. I have always been fat, but had my body well proportioned. I started having kidney stones in my early 20s. This caused high blood pressure, so I started taking pills and had an operation to eliminate the kidney stone. I kept having high blood pressure. I then got married, had two wonderful sons and pre-eclampsia with both pregnancies. That skyrocketed my blood pressure and more pills were added to my regimen. To make a long story short I started gaining weight and developed diabetes. The sad story is when the diabetes was discovered, it had already caused alot of damage. I have neuropathy. I lost my left kidney which was supposed to be the good kidney. I have heart problem and my only kidney is only function 15% and getting worst. The Doctor is trying to avoid me going into dialysis. I buy $2000.00 worth of medicines every month just to avoid getting worse. My hope and only hope is to lose weight to alleviate my problem and see if I can lower the amount of medicines I take. The medicines are one of the great factors that I am overweight and the other factor is my self-pity that has led me to overeat.
I weigh 220lbs now but weighed 246lbs on a 5'0" height, so I am extremely obese for my size. I just want to live a simple and meaningful life without being embarassed about my weight. I hope this group and your support will help me in my new endeavors, I will definitely do the same for you. Thanks for reading my story. I need all the help I can get.
    Take care and Good Luck!

Wow Thelma. It sounds like you've really had a rough go of it. I hope that your weight loss will help alleviate some of your problems. And congrats for losing 26lbs already! Did that help at all with your conditions?

    Good Afternoon New Friends,
I am so glad more people are joining us on this forum. The stories are very interesting, and I'm glad eveyone is being truthful...looks like we're all aready to put it out there and quit hiding behind the clothes, and get real for once in our lives. Remember, we're all going to lose at different rates, and when one loses more than you did, don't get discouraged (that is what I always did on other diets). As long as we each stay true to ourselves and each other, we can stick with this plan. Just think...when we all get to our goals, we'll not only have new bods to show off and be proud of, but we will also have made many new friends! So when you're happy, sad, frustrated, lonely, confused, whatever it is that you're feeling, come to your friends, we'll always be here for you!

Yeah, the "she has such a pretty face" thing is so awful, Stephanie. That's really sweet of your husband to offer to buy you clothes. Even if it's not something that you'll use for motivation, it'll be nice when you're doing your shopping spree after you lose the weight!

    Welcome to the group!

[OK so I cried when I read the thread about the lady whos husband took her hands etc..what a sweet man who totally gets it..My twin sister jsut gave me a bunch of 45 records from the 70's and even a couple from the 50's. WELL, I stood up with my cane and danced..now no easy feat I must tell you with a cane, in need of a hip replacement and 2 knees, and 299 lbs. But get this. It "took" me back..I actually "felt" like I did when I DID dance to this music and felt I had the whole world ahead of me after my divorce and losing 90 lbs (not the best way to lose) Still it amazed me and really cheered me up. now if I can just keep dancing my way thru the next 129 lbs. Here we go.quote]Thread

That's so great, Bluesqueen. Dancing is such a wonderful thing and good for you for doing it even though it wasn't easy for you! And I bet there's quite a few of us here that would be happy to dance along with you while we lose weight. I know I will!

Are any of you using rewards to motivate you? If so what? Yes my husband is a wonderful man and he does what he can to help. He is the type that does not gain anything and is cut. He may not fully understand the stuggle of loosing the weight but he does try.
Wow it looks like there is a few of us that has health problems. I have had back surgery so I do know about the hurt and the heavy breast.
With the weight lose I am hoping that I will avoid other health problems that my whole family has.
Best to luck to you all. With the support of all of us we can do this!

I'm not really using rewards...but I am taking trips and so I'm using those as an impetus to get my butt in shape (literally)! At the end of September, I'm flying to Canada to visit my grandmother and my cousins from Australia, so I would really like to be down to 180 by then. Then in February, I'm going to Mexico with my parents and my god-parents and I'm going to work really hard to get a bathing-suit body. Then my husband will be coming home from a 8-month deployment in August 2007, so I'll want to look my best for that. My plan is to lose enough weight that he barely recognizes me.

Well, I have to admit, that I already jumped the gun on a reward...I currently wear size 16, and our local store was having a sale on jeans (50% off one pair only), and the jeans I like there are $35.00 a pair, and I really wanted to take advantage of that, so I went ahead and bought a size 12...I already have 14's that are super tight on me, so I will have those when I drop down a size, but I decided to get the 12's just to encourage myself more. So, once I can fit in those, that will be a great reward for me!

What do you plan on doing with your "fat" clothes once you lose weight? I am going to get rid of mine, that way, once I reach goal, I will have to maintain, as I won't have any larger clothes to go back up in size to.

That's a good idea, Penny. I personally don't have a heck of a lot of clothes that fit me (I keep putting off buying them because I refuse to believe I'm going to stay at this size), but for others that do have a closetful of clothes that aren't going to fit, putting them on consignment might be a good idea. Just a thought.

Glad to read all the postings. So many of us have a lot in common. It will be really great to have all of us rooting for each other.
Today I went with my DH to a car show that he was involved with. It was a tough day. I planned and took my food for the day in a cooler, but had a tough time eatting in from of the group as they were all eatting BBQ and pop...so I hope that I did not screw it up to much as I ate most of the days food at 4pm. I also added a low carb yogart to the mix just to stay afloat. But tomarrow is another day... so I will work harder on this.
Hugs to all and have a blessed Sunday. I will be the late night poster I'm afraid. Lori
