Hi Miss Tiff- sounds like you got good shoes! GOOD and you have your plan to start your walk/run routine! You might not be uncomfortable running.. I was -but we are all different.and glad to hear that you have a track nearby so that is a great surface to run on... I had exercise enduced astma as a side effect from gaining weight and it went away! So maybe your asthma will be better.. and again might need to be monitored by a doctor.. i read your profile and you were quite a runner in the past! how exciting for you to be able to do it again! I know for me being able to return to workout out has been such a wonderful experience!!! I know others have different areas they like to use as motivation.. but what ever it is setting realistic goals has helped so much .. esp when my weight loss slowed down towards the end. And still today.. OK you said it time to commit to more exercise.. besides the weight loss it will make a difference in "reshaping" your body which is amazing to see happen to yourself .. thank you for the post! We all have dreams and aspirations... and it is great to see you are making yours reality!!!

Hey Tray - I've been keeping up with the accolades you're receiving in this forum, but did you say to Miss Tiff in Post #38 (and I quote): "If you just go out and run most likely your heart rate will be way too high to be in your fart-burning zone!" You cracked me up big time!!!

yes I did.. you are right becky LOL let me clarify that.. if most of us went out -WHO HAD NOT BEEN RUNNING AT ALL- and just ran outside..(not on a control environment like a treadmill) if you looked at your heart rate it would MOST likely be above your target heart rate for fat burning.. I can say that happened to me.. I had been running on the treadmill when i first started to run (and needed too since it was getting hard for me to walk at my THR on the treadmill) I just did a S-L-O-W run and my heart rate was 153!!! (I usually train at 125-135 for my fat-burning cardio..) Does that make sense? I just wanted to make sure that Miss Tiff was not just going out and running (going from just walking to running).. without monitoring her HR.. and not getting the fat burning cardio .. since she had said that she had not been running and also not really doing much exercise.. so that comment was specifically a reply to that senerio... OK let me know if this is a good follow up... Are you still laughing?LOL Becky- please feel free to post anything here to me! (or anyone else for that matter..)

Holy cow Tray - you missed my point. You said "FART-burning zone" instead of FAT-burning - THAT'S why I was laughing!! I guess I find if funny because I've been around my 3-yr. old grandson who is into "bathroom humor".

bunnie lol i thought maybe my irritable bowel syndrome was in my profile and you were trying to truely help me find a FART burning zone hehe.. too bad polar doesn't make a FART rate monitor that you can strap to your butt lol.. acutally if you could exercise in a fart burning zone i would have my HUBBY out there jogging TONIGHT.. but i don't think there's anything about your target fart rate in the little black book. bunnie is the first to educate us. don't worry bunnie, i won't go out and just run without monitoring my fart rate ok ok i'll stop now lol yeah those shoes are pretty comfy, i think they are keepers, and yes i'm lucky to have that track nearby, i had actually forgotten about it, but hubby reminded me. i don't know that my asthma will go away, it's not exercise induced, it's an all the darned time type asthma. yes i'm sure that running for you is a dream too! yes i was quite the runner in my past. i should have stuck with 7 miles a day, it was when i moved up past 10 that i hurt my knees, coz i wanted to start training for a marathon. stupid move on my part. reshaping your body? well my problem area is my stomach, i don't know that running can reshape that.... can it? lol dreaming again i've started doing situps and my knee strengthening exercises. prepping for Christmas. i can hardly wait! cheers to you bunnie, my december inspiration!

Nope nothing in the BB about that..LOL hopefully you have not wasted too much time looking for it! oh well at least it is an amusing type-O! you know i am glad we have shared the humor!! I can totally relate my stomach is the first place i gain and the last place i loose! (just does not seem right..) You cannot "pick" where to loose the bodyfat.. (too bad HUH?) but as you get closer to goal it will go away! (the good news) Running is good for your butt and legs etc and it definately helps burn that fat! One thing about running it is very hard on your body.. and can cause injuries! I love trail running i am such a slow runner i have plenty of time to see everything! again glad we have all had some laughs about the posts! sounds like your shoes are good! and who knows ..your asthma might be better.... Please keep in touch!! want to know about your running adventures! TGIF!!!

bunnie, i was looking at your pics and your tummy was NUTHIN' like mine tho.. but i'm glad running is good for the butt because my butt has gotten strangely flat and GUSHY in my old age lol. my hubby is always smacking my butt and i always say 'gushy butt gushy butt!!' ... your pics look FAB, you look like a total athlete! i'm keeping in touch coz i had my first running adventure tonight lol sorta.. my little niece came over and i chased her around my kitchen and living room island until i got too winded. but i made a conscious effort to 'jog'.. just to see if i could do it lol, and i did it!! small victory, and it was a REALLY slow jog, but a victory none the less. it means that i will be able to do the walk/jog thing i had planned. very exciting for me really, goofy as it sounds lol. i'll not be crossing any marathon finish lines like you, but i WILL run again, (thank you Jesus) i'm sure of it..

HI elaine- (Miss tiff right?) ok if i call you elaine .. Ok you have not seen my true 'start" pics i took them in a bikini! Let me tell you I had quite a huge belly/hip area (were i carried most of my weight gain) I took my first measurements at week 2 and my waist was 37 inches and then now is 27.5 (28) inches.. SO how is that for proof??? LOL it is funny when most "meet" you after goal they assume you have not had the issues/struggles and that once you LL your problems are gone..LOL well not .. but i can also undestand where some are just starting and do not really know the process..none of us really do until we experince it right? OK... so i did a marathon.. that was my goal.. but your "marathon" could even be to run one mile! it does not matter what the difference is... just that you have those goals and do your best to accomplish them!! that is the gest of what my message is.... we are all so different but can share goals! and the process it takes to get to that finish line!!! you are so funny! see all those little steps give you the motivation, and the ability to realize you can do what you want! It is so empowering don't you think? I mean I remember when all I thought I was was a LOOSER in my thoughts and perception but now have the ability to set goals and do them by myself and for myself! (easy to say but have come a long way to know and believe in myself..) does that make sense? ok i know i have alot of things to work on and always will but then i also know I CAN and WILL do what is needed to make those changes!! oppss ok rambling glad you had a fun jog!!!! yeah i still have a bit of a flat butt... LOL i have always been that way! but the weights have helped!! still some jiggles there but working on it!! like i said i will always be a work in progress... I have a couple of schedules to use to make the transition from walking to running .. do you want them??? if so PM me your email and i can send them to you...OK? talk to you soon!! OK i know there are some lurkers out there.. THANKS for reading my posts and feel free to join in if you want... it is great to meet new friends and hear their stories and accomplishements!!!

bunnie, what a great choice for a success story you are, such a motivational speaker!! and you are utterly charming. 37'' pffft, my tummy was like 45''!! and right NOW it's 36 1/2! i agree with what you said about goals. my goal is just to run again, not far, not fast, just to run, sweeeeeet running lol.. yes i will pm you with my email adress to get that from you! thanks so much! my sister in law asked me what i wanted for Christmas yesterday and i said 'a jog bra' lol she looked at me like i was daft, and i said 'i'm seeeerious' lol.. i will also need some kind of track suit or something to run outside in. not sure what to look for. maybe something to run in the rain in, since i live in vancouver lol.. tho i wonder if running in the rain would be bad for my shoes. i think you should be sooooo proud of yourself. the way you set a goal like A MARATHON and reached it! to me that's like reaching for the stars.. do you ever think back on the days before provida and could you ever IMAGINE you would be where you are today?? that's a total change of LIFE. you must be so happy.

Carolina- no big deal..LOL i never knew that if you clicked on the photo of the success story you wold be linked to their story... Elaine-they do make some shoes out of gortex but they are $$- and i used to run in the rain all time when i lived in N.Cal.. and enjoyed it! you can get some great technical fabrics now and while running you stay pretty warm since your body is working pretty hard while running.. just make sure after you run you get out of your wet stuff ... and REACH FOR THE STARS!! they are attainable!! looking for my next athletic goal... ok hope you are well!

I've been following along reading this tread for awhile and you are all so funny! I didn't catch the misspelling either...LOL... I recently starting doing some running on my treadmil and also outside at the school around the corner from us and I love it. I understand it is supposed to be good for flabby legs, and boy do I have them now, but I am very hopeful they will get more toned up as I take off more weight and fill the flab in with muscle by doing some weight training. Nice to get to know you all. Have a wonderful holiday.

You can and should enjoy the holidays. You can enjoy being with family and going out with friends. There's no reason why you can't enjoy yourself AND stay healthy, lean and fit through the holidays. All it takes is some planning, some goal-setting and little dose of old-fashioned discipline. Aim to stay on your fitness program over the holidays: "Fail to plan and you plan to fail" is a time worn statement, but it's still one of the best success advice you will ever hear. Not only do most fail to plan, they consciously plan to fail over the holidays. Most of them expect to "blow" their diet and skip workouts over the holidays. They expect to eat more, to exercise less and to gain weight. As a result, they don't even make the effort. You can avoid this trap by planning to succeed through your holidays. Set up a positive expectation. Keep your standards up and don't settle! Not only can you plan to "stay in shape" over the holidays, you can plan to improve! All you have to do is make the right (realistic) decision and expect success. Plan all your workouts in advance: You know your schedule is going to get hectic over the holidays. You'll be cooking, shopping, attending the haphazard routine of the family , going to parties, traveling, visiting friends, and so on. To stay on your training and nutrition regimen is definitely going to take some sound time management skills. Plan your schedule in advance. Anticipate what's coming up. Write it down. Put it on your calendar. By doing so, you won't be caught unprepared. Use a schedule book or monthly calendar and "make appointments" for ALL your workouts for the next six weeks well in advance. Then, paste a copy where you will be forced to look at it every day. This is a powerful exercise that will keep you focused and force you to think about and prepare for each upcoming workout. If you try to squeeze in your workouts and meals whenever you have time left over, you'll find that there never IS any time left over! Somehow your daily activities always seem to "expand" to fill the hours in every day. So schedule your workouts and meal times in your calendar just like you would any other appointment or event. Once you've done that, stick to your schedule religiously. Set some compelling training and fitness goals over the holiday period: The problem is that very few women set goals during the holidays. Set some big (achievable) goals that you can start working on during the holidays: • Set a goal to lose the 25 lbs you've always wanted to lose NOW • Set the goal to gain 10 lbs of solid muscle NOW. Keep your standards high, but don't expect others standards to be as high as yours. Remember that unlike most people you've decided to stay strong. Don't let their negative influence drag you down. No matter where you are, you always have choices. Sometimes you have to choose between bad and worse. Other times you can choose between good and better. But always make the best choice possible based on whatever your options are. If nothing else, you can choose to eat a small portion of something bad rather Even if you fall completely off the wagon, don't beat yourself up. Get right back on your program without missing another second. Many women think their entire diet is ruined by one fall. They feel as if everything they've done prior to that day was wasted and there's no sense going on. Or even worse, they drop out . Just because you mess up once doesn't mean you should quit! You're only human. Don't let one small slip keep you derailed. Firmly plant your wheels back on the tracks and start rolling again. The Holiday season is upon us. At this time of year I take a few moments to count my blessings and appreciation for all the wonderful things in my life. I can't help but include the thoughtfulness and compassion of friends such as you. Friends find ways of accepting and forgiving that no others can. Each one of you are on my mind and in my thoughts. I thank you for being there for me this past year and hope our relationship will continue to blossom and grow. Hope everyone has a joyous season and a prosperous New Year. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! enjoy the time with friends and family and celebrate the success you have had this past year!!! IT will only get better in 2005!!!!!

bunnie, what a wonderful post as we wind down to the end of december.. i will always remember december, and YOU, i've got my running shoes now, but i woke up with a cold on Christmas morning hehe, it always takes me a long while to get over a cold so running may be post poned for a bit as i wait for the sore throat and aches and pains to subside. I'm so glad they chose you as 'poster girl'.. you've changed things for me, to say the least. you've given me a whole new start. I'm watching so many people flounder after they have lost alot of weight and I think that's because they need a new goal, or a you put it, a new finish line to cross. So thank you. Thank you for being such an inspiration, thank you for being the december girl, and thank you for being you...

Tray - ditto to what Elaine said! This is my first serious "holiday season" to contend with since starting this program, and it has been quite a challenge. Yes, I "slid" and have to admit, I expected to. However, reading your posts and checking into the forums each day has kept things in perspective. I did plan an exercise schedule through the holidays, and even if I couldn't make it to the gym, I would go for an hour long paced walk, even in the freezing cold late in the evening, after the shopping, wrapping, cooking, cleaning, etc. etc. etc. Busy schedules are not foreign to any of us, but for some reason, it's an easy excuse to diss the exercise routines. As you said, sound management is essential. Thanks for posting your thoughts on this and thanks for being such a wonderful motivation to reaching my goal. I'm going to miss seeing your "bodies" at the top of my screen each day! Here's to a healthy and Happy New Year!

thanks for the kind words!! It has been wonderful to have had this honor!!! Each post has been such motivation and inspiration!! Keep in touch and let's share our own experiences with each other! We all share the same feelings, experiences .. this website has been such a great place for me to come and get advice, information and most of all just to vent /share the physical and emotional aspect of the weight loss/ lifestyle change!! What wonderful people here .... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! Saturday, January 1, 2005 Say yes This New Year is the time to say yes to the best of your possibilities. This is the moment to start reaping the rewards from the positive side of life. Many opportunities will beckon, and you can choose to say yes to them. Obstacles will regularly stand in your way, and you can decide that, yes, you will work through them. There will be plenty of ways to make a positive difference. And yes, you can be the person who steps forward to do it. Setbacks will come along to knock you down. And yes, you can get back up and get yourself moving forward even faster, with more determination than before. Say yes to the best possibilities, and even better possibilities will then open up to you. Say yes to the challenges, and the strength you develop will lift you higher than you ever could have imagined. Say yes this New Year to the richness and wonder that is your life. And your positive, enthusiastic approach will make it even better. ALL THE BEST TO EACH OF YOU!! Wishing you a NEW year filled with health and happiness!!
