I never thought I would again see the day that I would weigh less than I did in high school!  I have been overweight my entire adult life.  I tried so many different diets and tricks and nothing worked.  I had completely given up on being an "acceptable" weight.  I didn't gain my weight by overeating, but by not eating regularly scheduled meals.  I wouldn't eat until one or two in the afternoon and then I would just graze off and on throughout the afternoon and evening.  My worse time of day was late at night.

One night, very late, I was watching tv and on came the Michael Thurmond commercial.  At first I thought "yeah right, here we go again."  But after watching it, I was willing to give it a shot.  I was shocked at how easy it was to follow the plan.  The hardest part was training myself to eat breakfast.

It took me more than 6 weeks (1 1/2 years to be exact) to lose all my weight.  Not because the plan doesn't work, because trust me, it does.  It took that long because I stuck to the plan for three months then sort of fell off the wagon for awhile.  I then hooked up with a long time friend (and boss) who was also doing the plan (small world!!!!) and the rest is history - literally!)  I lost 95 pounds and have managed to keep it off!!!!

I highly recommend this program to everyone I meet.  It works - keep up the good work every one!!!!

Way to go Becky!!!  It doesn't matter that you stopped in between losing all that weight, what matters is you got back up and finished the race!  You look amazing!  Thanks for sharing your success, hopefully we'll all be where you are now, sharing our stories!

Thanks to you all for your honest sharing and your willingness to be available to those who are in the first stages of the program.  How I got here:  I am 68 years old, work full-time, and was essentially the same adult size most of my life.  I even lost all my weight after each of my four kids -- not an easy process since I had my kids very close.  When I hit 45, things began to change and I really began packing on the pounds -- not overnight but in a steady way.  I did Jenny Craig in the early 90's and kept the weight off for almost five years.  I also am involved in Overeaters' Anonymous because food is my "drug of choice."  Yet the OA-HOW food plan was very effective for a while.  Now, at my age, in spite of the fact that I keep busy and try to walk 3,000-5,000 steps a day, I just keep adding a few ounces every week, and I know that my health is suffering and I am not prepared to live as an invalid.  I am a true C and find that I enjoy the foods.  I just love that bread!!  But I have de-toxed from simple carbos before and it was not life-threatening.  It actually helped me to enjoy the rest of my food more.  Your encouragement and support for each other is much appreciated.  My sincere hope is that I have found a way of life that I can maintain without the constant struggle.  That struggle has gotten very dreary and wearing these past few years.

BJMartin,  Wow and another wow!  Congratulations on changing your lifestyle for good.  That is a lot of weight to lose.  Your family must be overjoyed, but mostly you must feel victorious!  I have lost 23 so far and would like to lose another 16-20.  Thanks for the inspiration to continue on my journey.  God bless you.

Becky...Congratulations on your success!  I started in July of 05...Kept it off for almost 19 mos...slipped and here I am in 08....Today is the first day of the rest of my life, right! I've great friends here on this forum and so much knowledge already on how wonderfully this program once worked for me....I decided to go back to what I did before and open up the monthly newsletters from gals like you....Do those things that I did as a beginner...and take baby steps into skinnyville!....Thanks for the reminder...This plan is the greatest...I never felt better than when I was true to it...and so yippee...July is still a good time to start again.... BTW, you look sooooo terrif!!!!

    Hugs,

I need help and in looking around the forums eneded up here. I belong to the biggest losers thread. I joined the plan Aug 2006, lost 102 lbs and then blew a disc in my back. My legs went numb but I could walk..surface numbness. I was to have immediate surgery then got the really bad flu..days in bed out of my head. SO a month insued before that surgery to take the fragments off my spinal cord. March 6th. On June 9th I had a hip replacement and am still doing therapy and trying to recover from all this. I dont know what happened to my mindset but am basically struggling to be OP and have gained back 25lbs. I am SO mad at myself. I am 67 Aug 19th, and want so much to kayak and ride my motorcycle. I have been workng at home since the first surgery and my income has dwindled to nil, thats depressing as my husband and I live paycheck to paycheck. It's very daunting at our age but we count our blessings everyday and will take whatever comes now. I read the monthly success story was about a twin and I tried to read her post about that but it brought me here. I too am a twin who suffers also from weight and other issues. SO I am really struggling to get back my mindset that seemed so easy the first year. Any hints or lectures or anything else you can suggest is appreciated..JOLT ME LOL. I doshop and cook ahead and freeze. Its been hard with these surgeries..only been to store twice thus the beginning of bad food choices. I just ordered the cookbook. When I first bought the plan in 2002 I lost 18lbs, went on a 1400 mile motorcycle trip and never got back on the plan. I must have given away the stuff except for the big leather book and I found it one day cleaning..and it took this time. SO I dont have any of the support stuff other than this site. No receipe cards or cds or dvds but thats OK..I am determined but just really tired I think..still i have to stop this train and get back on the plan and lose at least what Ihave gained.then go on. whoo hoo TO ALL OF YOU. mARGE
