Finally! I have the key to my body. I have been yo-yo dieting for 38 years and, amazingly, my body waited for me to wake up and treat it right. When I started eating and exercising right my body rewarded me by shedding 105 lbs and 99 inches in only ten months. It has been an enlightening journey to health and in search of the body I am supposed to have. I have gone from a size 24/26 to a size 8. (and even a few 6's!) I have had people tell me that it's time to "stop". Hmmmm? Stop what? Feeling good? Eating healthy? Having fun shopping for clothes? I don't think so!

At first I didn't want to tell anyone how much weight I had lost because then I had to admit how much I weighed when I started. Now I just want to celebrate the fact.

I have been overweight pretty much my entire life. My first diet was a starvation diet when I was 16. I lost 60 lbs that first time. The weight, of course, came back and brought more with it. I did another starvation diet (liquid protein)nine years later and lost 70 lbs. When I started eating again, I gained 14 lbs in one weekend and gained the entire 70 pounds back in less than two years. So, another diet (venus De Milo)...I'm sure you know the drill. In between these major attempts at weight loss I tried other diets: Weight Watchers, Richard Simmons, Cabbage Soup, Spinach & Eggs (caused blisters in mouth so I couldn't eat -painful) etc. etc.etc.

I had pretty much decided I was just meant to be overweight. I had read, and liked, the information about your body seeking its ideal weight. I was not an unhappy, depressed, overweight person. I was fairly comfortable in my skin. But, I did not like shopping at "specialty" shops, worrying about the seats on the airplane, at the movies, or in a restaurant.

As for exercise, I always thought I was fairly active. I just believed that a slow metabolism was what kept me heavy and was something I had to learn to live with. I knew exercise was important and did aerobics, and dance tapes. I bought pretty much every piece of exercise equipment known to man. But, I wasn't consistent and didn't understand what kind of exercise my body really needed. Although I had read many books on diet and exercise I didn't know the basic facts about how my body works. If I knew then what know now.

About a year ago I began feeling tired all the time. My energy was gone. If I sat down when I got home from work, I didn't get back up. When I began losing my sense of humor, I knew I had to do something. I was emotionally and physically exhausted and had nothing left to give. It was apparent that I wasn't going to do it by myself. So I began to look for a plan. Obviously, the programs I had tried before were not the answer. I wanted something that was going to be for the rest of my life. I wasn't looking to do something quick and "get back to normal". I began searching on the internet and found dozens of diet plans. When I happened upon the Six Week Body Makeover it immediately caught my attention. It promised me quick results, but also demanded exercise and diet changes on my part.

It took two weeks for me to feel ready to start after I received my kit. During that time I read the information and listened to the tapes over and over again. (I have continued to listen to the tapes over and over again!) When I finally started, I knew I would be out of town the next week at a conference for 6 days. I didn't let that stop me. Instead, I took my microwave, paid to have a fridge in my room and ate my own healthy food. As a chaperone of high school students, there were times when I had to eat out. Armed with all the tips I could find on the website (thank you to all the people that post tips) I felt like I handled eating out pretty well. I also exercised by walking on the treadmill in the workout room at the hotel. I lost 10 lbs in that first week!

But the most amazing thing that happened to me that first week was that my body "woke up". I got hungry! I was so hungry every three hours that I didn't need a clock to tell me when it was time to eat. It had been a long time since I heard my stomach growl. I thought not being hungry was a good thing! I was like a big 'ol hibernating bear.

From then on I made sure I had my food with me when we were running around on the weekends. I planned ahead..always. And, it wasn't long before I was feeling much better and dropping weight like crazy. Today my cholesterol is down 60 points, my blood pressure is great and I sleep better. I have energy to spare! The only goal I set when I started was to feel better and to not be considered overweight. In nine months I went from "morbidly obese" (horrible term) to "within normal range"

I knew if I wanted the results that had been promised I had to do my part. I started right in and continue to do cardio at least five times a week, drink all my water, eat on time, eat the right food, and do toning bands at least twice a week. Before, I was one of those people that thought I didn't have time to exercise on a regular basis or plan my meals ahead. I was sooooo wrong.

As others started seeing the weight dropping they asked about the plan. I always tell people "don't get me started if you don't want to know because I am passionate about this plan". I have nine family and extended family members that have begun the Six Week Body Makeover and they have lost a combined total of over 250 lbs.

I decided to practice Living Lean during the holidays and our sons wedding. I was a little nervous about it. I am so used to the weight just coming back levaing me feeling defeated. But, It was a surprisingly intuitive transition. The difference is that now when I eat I make a conscious decision about what I am going to eat - every time. I am very aware that I will have to make these decisions every day for the rest of my life. We all have to eat! I get that now.

Now I am ready to loose the last 9 lbs. I am positive I will reach goal soon and this time it will stay off because I understand how my body works and, believe me, it lets me know when I am not eating healthy. I'm not saying it will always be easy - but it WILL always be worth whatever concesions I need to make.

If you are just considering this program don't hesitate. If you follow the plan -as Michael Thurmond says - it will work. The tools are all there for you to build a new you. Those of you on the program, don't you wish everyone knew what we know now?

    It's not magic - it's science and....it works.

Wow, congradulations on losing all that weight! You remind me so much of myself when you write about your past diets. I've been right there with you, as a lot of people have who are now on this plan. I haven't ordered my kit yet, I'm waiting for enough cash to do so. But once I do, wow... your story is just makes me wish I had mine now so that I could start losing! This is not a diet, its a lifestyle change, and thank God I am up for the challenge. Good luck dropping the last 9 =)

What a fantastic success story, Debby -- thank you so much for sharing your experience and your fabulous photos (Congrats to the happy couple, too!) I'm so thrilled to hear that it's possible to keep up the momentum for the long haul. The 6WBMO was a birthday/Christmas present to myself this past December, and I am still thoroughly enjoying the ride over a month later!

It was also tremendously important to me to find some sensible guidance in all areas of this lifestyle change -- from eating to cardio to sculpting and beyond -- all the while, having a clear, attainable goal in sight. This active support forum makes all the difference in the world as well, especially when stories like yours and Lisa P.'s (used2Bthin-and-now-is-again!) are featured. Your successes give me hope and inspiration that it's not only never too late, but well worth the effort! HAPPY NEW YOU!!
