My story ... humm lets see .... well it begins much the same as many others I guess ... I battled a weight problem almost all my life ... I don't know when exactly I went from being a slim kid to a fat one but even back then, I think I ate for emotions too - I remember the first time I was teased for being too chubby and I turned to my granny's cookie jar and 2 cookies became 3 and then 4 and so on .. and before I knew it I had set myself up for a path of obesity .. so while I was always conscious of being over weight from an early age I never really connected my love of sweets and eating comfort foods with being the true cause of the weight or that I really even had any control over it ....

When I reached my pre-teens I joined a swim team and for the first time ever I glimpsed another life as the pounds melted off and I was finally thin, I saw that the world seemed a much friendly place to this slimmer me .. so when I started gaining the weight back - after all I had only lost the weight by exercise alone and not by any change in my eating habits at all so the weight loss was temporary - I began to panic - and as folks started commenting on how fat I was getting again - I was desperate to maintain that slimmer figure - so I turned to a starvation diet of existing on the bare minimum of food and yes even purging if I did eat anything over my strict allowance - years later I now know that starving myself thin only accomplished one thing - causing me to be doomed to eventually gain it all back Plus some and making the effort to lose the next time even harder ...with each every attempt.

However, that said I did manage to keep the weight off for a few more years with the new starving and occasional purging diet - but in college, the freshmen 10 turned into the freshmen 40 ... I was so depressed .. when I came home that first summer I joined Weight Watchers where at least I finally realized it was amounts of food as well as types that I had to try control ... and I lost about 30 lbs that summer - but when I went back to college and campus eating, it all came back on again .... So when I finally finished college I was the heaviest I had been but still struggling to do it all on my own ... years went by and then after the birth of my son I finally decide I was going to take control of my life once and for all - I re-joined WW and managed to shed 80 lbs and reach lifetime status (from a size 20 to a size 8 ) and I re-learned that it was not just how much I ate but what I ate too and finally started eating vegetables for the first time ... I maintained for many years and thought I had found the answer but after another pregnancy I was up another 40 lbs and back at WW again - this time I lost it in record time and thought finally this was it .. but at the 2 year mark of maintaining I hit that wall again and the weight began creeping back on - I struggled with a 10 lb gain for over a year, and nothing I had learned at WW seemed to help to get it off - none of the things that helped me lose were working anymore and I was totally at the end of my rope.

I knew I needed something more there was some critical element missing - but I just couldn't figure out what that was .... That was the day I saw the 6WBMO ad on TV - I was just flipping through channels one day and there it was - like a message right from GOD- eat for you body type - it made such perfect sense it was like a light went on in my head - it finally explained why no matter how hard I tried that it wasn't just the amounts that I was eating or even the types the critical missing element was the type of food for MY particular body type that I was eating that was holding me back. My mom and I had been avid watcher of the Extreme Makeover shows and we always used to say "oh wouldn't it be wonderful to be them and to meet that Michael Thurmond guy and have him teach us what he is teaching them" And then there it was his plan and here it was available for us for only $120! It was too good to be true .. and at first I was like yeah it probably is too good to be true .. but I had been bitten and by the time I saw the infomercial for a second time I was hooked but good - so when my mom caught the same bug after watching the infomercial we decided we had to just go for it - what was 6 weeks anyway?! - blink of an eye really - and in 9 weeks not only had I lost the 10 I had gained and struggled to lose for a year but another 11 more for a total of 21 - all in only 9 weeks - from a tight size 6 and almost 150 lbs to a lose size 4 at 128 lbs .... I remember saying .. you mean this was it?! .. this is all I had to do all these years to be slim?!, to me this plan was like that infamous magic pill - you know the one we all dream about where all you do is take it and your suddenly slim ... it felt that remarkable to me - all I had to do was eat wholesome good foods 6 x a day - not starve and not kill myself in the gym - and it just melted off . To me that is better that any magic pill - cause this was real and this was achievable and I was the one who controlled it .. ... now here I am one year and two months later after reaching LL and the food plan is my everything - I live it, Sleep and breath it and can't imagine life any other way.

Not that LL is easy - it still takes work but with the right frame of mind and a good support system it really is achievable. To help me to continue with the next stage of life I started a LL support thread .. you may have heard of us ..The Skinny Minnie's. We started with a common goal to have a place in LL that was a home where we could all go to connect and try to keep the excitement alive ... kind of lower key NBU was what I was wanting .. I wanted that accountability without all that intense pressure ... and from those humble beginnings the Skinny Minnie's were born. Somebody once asked me how do you know this time it will be different - that you will be able to keep it off for a lifetime? .. and for me it's just this feeling ..you know?! .. kinda like how did you know the man you married was the one? .. you just know! ... With the 6WBMO it is just different ... I know that no matter how often I stray from the plan when I get back on track again the weight comes off each and every time ..with the other plans it was never that way - if I gained a few pounds I would be lucky if I had it off by the next year! .. with 6WBMO when I go back to true POP I see those lbs off in a week or two at most .... That's a sense of freedom I never had ever - knowing I can finally control my destiny and that the fear of being doomed to being over weight will never be my fate again!

In closing I can not end here with out a special mention about my Skinny Minnie Sisters .... One thing I have to let all those striving to reach Living Lean know .. never discount how important a good support system is .. knowing you have a group of friends that are there for you in the ups and down can bring out the strength in you that you never realized you even had! My Skinny Minnie sisters are such an inspiration to me each and every day, having them really helps keep me grounded in the whole LL process - The community Provida has set up for us really is a source of strength, make sure to take full advantage of the gift ... You know before I met these ladies I could never understand how you could ever form bonds so close via cyber space .. but after living it and even being fortunate enough to even meet one of these angels in person also, it really is surreal you know?! - I feel as close to them as I ever could to anyone I had met face to face right from the start - each and every one of them is a true blessing in my life

So just like our Skinny Minnie motto says ... LL is all about "Living Life Beyond The Finish Line" ... it's all about choices and frame of mind - Don't forget all of us have that Skinny Minnie inside us and it's up to us to choose to let her out or not. So here's to seeing you all on the other side I look forward to meeting you all! Barbara

Congratulations on your success and your continued daily successes! We all know that this is a lifetime battle and conversion of eating styles, attitudes and choices.

I think it's great that they choose someone who showed that this struggle exists even with people who did NOT have a hundred pounds to lose.

Sometimes I think the accent is always on how many pounds we lost.. the more the better... when in reality the key is how many did we NEED to lose. My point being it is just as hard for the person who is only 25 pounds overweight to lose those pounds as it is for the person who is 125 pounds overweight.

In some ways it is even harder for them, since those last few pounds are so difficult to lose.

So congrats.. and I look forward to the day when I can join your group as a real skinny minnie!

    Barbara,
You look great! I have only been on the program 3 days and was already getting discouraged (I am a chocoholic and have 2 children who got lots of candy last night!) My husband, Jeff, told me to hang in there so the first thing I thought I would do this morning is go to the support page and lo and behold I read your story. I would like to lose 20 lbs ( I am currently in a tight 10 and would like to be in a good 6 or 8).
Thank you for your story and if you have any words of encouragement, please send them on!
    Sincerly,
    Stacy B.

Congrats on being the SSOM and for being so successful with the plan! That pretty red dress catches my eye everytime I log on.

Boy, I wish Extreme Makeover would come back on the air. I loved that show!

Maybe one day someone will plan a big MAKEOVER REUNION and we can all meet each other. That would be cool.

    Congrats to all of you!

The "Skinny Minnies" women are a true inspiration. I'm just getting started on this journey (for the 2nd time) and I'm determined this time to succeed. It's nice to know that after I lose the weight, it will not be too hard to maintain my new weight with the help of the LL program. It's also great to know that there is a program that I can always go back to (6WBMO) if I gain some weight back, for ex. after I have my children. This gives me a lot of hope that I won't have to worry about becoming obese again as long as I live the LL and 6WBMO lifestyle.

Thanks again for sharing your success stories...they are really motivating and inspiring!

Thanks so much everyone .. I am so flattered and overwelmed by all the sweet words - I never even dreamed I could some day by up there in that left hand corner like this .. I feel like such a celebrity now - so thanks for making me feel so special

Jen - Big Kiss hon - you have always been my best cheerleader and I love you for being there for me through thick and thin - quite litterly BFF

    Kathy - thank you

Sandy - Hugging you back babe

Jane - Thank you - and I sure hope to see you back posting soon - we miss you! But sure looks like you have been doing good getting back on track - keep up the good work and maybe we will se you even sooner right?!

Oxy - You are so right - whether it is 20 lbs or 80 lbs it is all relative isn't it?! ... and sometimes yes it can be harder to lose a smaller amount cause it is so easy to kid yourself that maybe that extra 10 lbs doesn't really matter anyway ... but we all feel the same when we are not happy with our bodies .... it helps too I think, when you stop viewing it as a race - you know first one to the finish line counts type thing - in reality this is always gonna be a journey even when you've each goal - the lifestyle we have choosen to help lose the weight is the one we have to continue on to maintain also - when we realize this is for a lifetime this plan and not a momnet that's when some of the anxiousness is released and we can just enjoy the ride ya know?! We look forward to welcoming you to the Skinny Minnies soon!

Stacy - Ah yes .. Halloween, Christmas and Easter - teh 3 worst candy holidays of the year .. trust me, we all battle with those temptaions even at LL .... the first week is the tougest - but get through this first week and the reward you will get after your first WI will help strenthen your resolve to keep going and each time you say no to temptaion it gets easierand easier as youget stronger and stronger - and sexier and sexier too ..... I used to tell myself when I first began the plan and saw al lthe seasonal candies coming out .. you know what that same stuff will be right there this time next year - so I'm just gonna wait until I am at goal and then I will treat myself ..and you know what it's true - that candy isn't going nowhere! there will be many, many more oppurtunities to have it but next time Halloween comes it will be you sporting that sexy red dress .. now that feeling is gonna be way better that any taste of candy will be today dont'cha think?!

Elaine - Thanks sweetie - High praise indeed coming from Ms October I sure hope I can continue to do justice to November what you did for October .... hugs

Rhonda - Thank you so much for you kind words. Just keep your eye on the prize and take it one day at a time .. you can do it! My best advise is to make sure you follow the tips they give like pre-cooking and portioning and packaging food in advance, don't be afraid to get creative with the seasonings (salt free ones of course) us eteh recipie thread to find some good staples to tehdaily menu's and stay active on the boards .. join a thread you can connect with so that you can get that moral support to keep going on the tough days and have someone to share the laughs with on the good.

    Dana - Why thank you

Cindy - Thank you - and guess what?! ... Extreme Makeover IS back on!!! Friday nights on ABC at 8pm - AWSOME huh?!

Robin - Thank you - looks like your doing pretty darn good yourself - keep up the good work and we will be sing you in LL soon

Well gotta dash get DS from a playdate (he is on mid term break) and then off to get dd from school be back later - thanks again everyone Barbara

    CONGRATULATIONS BARBARA!
You've done an amazing job...you're perseverance is quite inspiring. Month after month these success stories continue to prove that there is no better plan out there, and once again I'm happy to see someone else achieve their ultimate goal...I'm hoping to get there by the end of the year. Congratulations again, you look, and must feel, fantastic.

Barbara, I already said in the Skinny Minnie thread it is great to see you up in the corner! We get to see your wonderful transformation every day in the thread but it's nice to have your shining moment.

I have bad news though, I heard that they canceled Extreme Makeover! They only showed the one episode which was great! Darn it anyways!

I think we need Michael to pop in once in a while and give us that extra push! lol

    Congratulations again! Grace
