I am so excited. I've waited for this day for so long. I am proud to announce that in just 268 days on the 6WBMO, I have shed 96 pounds (and more than 80 inches) and reached my goal weight. YEAH!!!! I promised some one that I'd post the LONG version of my story here so...only read on if you're prepared. I have always thought I was heavy from childhood. In retrospect, I can see that I wasn't until my twenties that I really became an overweight, unhappy person. My husband, Bill, on the other hand, has been overweight since early childhood. Sure, we've both had different levels of success on other plans but nothing that lasted past the first day off that diet or beyond the first long plateau. When we met, we ate out a lot and gained a lot. Then when we were married and I was pregnant with our first child, my husband gained weight right along with me. Same story on pregnancy number two. As a result, after our youngest was born, we were both extremely overweight. We tried a few different things over the course of the next 3 years. Resulting in only about a 20 pound loss for each of us. My personal/private goal had been to use the years that I was staying at home with the boys before they went to school to make a major change in my body and get back under 180 lbs. I figured that I really didn't have the excuses of time pressures, etc. to limit my success. With our oldest at 4--and the youngest about to turn 3--I had all but given up the achievement of that goal. I was already eating next to nothing (800 calories a day) and treadmilling myself silly. During this same time, my husband was limiting himself to a granola bar and diet pop at lunch and eating a meal only at dinner time in his effort to reduce his girth. Then one morning I saw the infomercial. The drawn on pictures first caught my eye. I watched a while then switched the channel. I saw bits and pieces of it again several times over the next few weeks. I did some internet research to find out about the company and try to ascertain if there were supplements or expensive products that would be required to achieve the quick results promised and maintain the results. When I was satisfied, I ordered the kit without my husband's knowledge. After the package arrived, I told him that it was something I was going to try and if it didn't work I would send it back for a refund. He enthusiastically signed on to do it with me. We committed to each other that we absolutely would not cheat for at least 2 weeks. We made a plan for each of us to get our cardio done before our boys get up in the morning (eliminating most of our excuses for not getting it done). I planned ahead and had our food prepared so we could start on St. Patrick's Day. This was the first Monday of Spring Break for our household (Bill is a HS teacher) and we chose to start then so that we could mope at home during the first week rather than in public. To our delight, after that first week I had lost 14 lbs. and Bill had lost 13 lbs. We were hooked. We hated the headaches and the cravings but the results were undeniable. At the six week point, we had each lost 29 lbs. (down 27 inches for me and 20.125 for him). By the time school was out for the summer (week 10), I was down 43 lbs. and he was down 39 lbs. At this point a few brave people made comments that they thought I might have lost a few pounds but no one was noticing Bill's loss. We continued through the summer and when preparations for the school year started and we were out and about more (week 22--down 72 lbs and 65 inches for me, down 65 lbs. and 55 inches for Bill), WOW-O-WOW did we ever get comments. To accentuate our new looks, I dramatically changed my hair and Bill shaved off a goatee he'd had for years. Some people actually didn't recognize us at first. IT WAS GREAT!!! On the first day of our Kindergarten for our son, I weighed exactly 180. I was so proud of myself. Today, I reached my goal weight and my husband is down over 95 pounds and it still committed with only 30-50 more to go. We still haven?t cheated the plan one bite (268 days and counting). We carefully chart our success each week with measurements and weigh-ins. We've developed a variety of graphs to visibly measure our results. We had a goal of losing 5 pounds every two weeks. We know things slow down toward the end but it is nice to see that projected end date coming up on the calendar. We are now talking about how we want to work the living lean plan and what our fluctuation tolerances will be. We are committed to ensuring that our kids do not have fat unhealthy parents. I actually have to plan extra time whenever I go somewhere in town these days because of the number of people who stop me and ask me what we are doing and want information about the plan. This journey has been amazing. Thanks to everyone who has helped along the way. (I'll post some new after pictures in a day or two.)
