    Dear Prospective Students:

It is my honor to inform you that you have been accepted to New Body University. We are delighted to find so many qualified applicants. As a student at NBU, you will find fine living accommodations, experienced advisors, and friends from around the world. But more importantly you’ll be receiving a first rate education. Regardless of your degree track (6WBMO or SMART), you’ll learn all you need to know to make this life style change a permanent one.

We have high academic standards and we expect all our students to attend class (post often), participate in classroom projects and assignments (challenges), and most importantly maintain excellent grade point averages (earn your credits). We also require that our staff attend continuing education classes (stay on plan too) to ensure that we always have the best and the brightest. Each student should have their textbooks (6WBMO black book or SMART workbook) and study it regularly. We want all our students to do their best and set a goal to be listed on the Honor Roll each week.

Your Resident Advisor, spacecoastbrat will be here shortly. RUSH week begins March 17th and you will begin earning your credits on that day. On behalf of the faculty and staff of NBU, I welcome you. Please note that an official copy of the Student Handbook is enclosed (see below).

    Student Handbook

As a new student at New Body University, there are a number of rules and guidelines of which you need to be very familiar.

    1. Everyone following the 6WBMO, SMART plan, or who is Living Lean is accepted for admission into this University game. If you have any medical modifications (doctor suggested changes to either the food or exercise portion) please report them to your RA via PM.

    2. This semester’s schedule begins with enrollment starting March 8 followed by Move In starting March 12. Students begin to earn credits during RUSH Week which kicks off on March 17th. We will accept late enrollments until March 24th or until all the dorms are full. At that point, prospective students are encouraged to attend New Body Community College (and participate in campus activities for no credit) until the next semester begins. NBCC enrollments will go through the end of Week 4 (April 14th). Credits will be earned through April 27th and Final credits are to be reported by students ON April 28th.

    3. Dorm assignments are made on a RANDOM basis.

    4. You will be earning academic credits for following the 6WBMO or SMART plan guidelines (food—7, water—7, accelerated fat loss—5, and body sculpting—2). You will report your credits each week (Sunday through Saturday) by Midnight Central time Monday evenings. Each student should have their textbooks (6WBMO black book or SMART workbook) and study it regularly. We want all our students to do their best and set a goal to be listed on the Honor Roll each week. Those students who earn 100% of possible individual credits (21) each week will be listed on the Provost’s List. Those students who earn 90% (19-20) of individual credits each week will be listed on the Dean’s List. Those students who earn 80% (17-18) of individual credits each week will be listed on the Honorable Mention List. All students who are on the honor roll will add the appropriate icon to their signature. Students who fail to achieve a minimum of 60% (13) of possible individual credits in a week will be sent to Study Hall. Students in Study Hall will be assigned a tutor (someone who has had some success to buddy with) during their study hall period. If they are able to bring their grades back up the following week they will no longer be required to attend Study Hall. If a student is in Study Hall for two consecutive weeks, additional support will be offered.

    5. You’ll also be tracking your inch losses as described in your plan. You will report this information with beginning stats, with week 3 stats, and with final stats. Your Resident Advisor will have more information for your regarding this.

    6. There will be one thread for each dorm. You are allowed to visit all threads, but attend class (post) only in your own dorm’s thread. You may post all the motivation, encouragement, support, etc. Anything you would like to post that is from any other thread should be done so with full credit to the author via quotes, etc.

    7. You are allowed to have excused absences from class but you need to clear it with your Resident Advisor prior to the absence. Your Resident Advisor will go over the details with you in your dorm.

    8. If you skip more than 3 classes in a row, you will be considered truant and withdrawn from class. You may apply for reinstatement by contacting the Provost via PM.

    9. In an effort to ensure that all recipes posted are on-plan and that we are providing our students with only the best advice and information we are no longer going to allow students to post recipes in the dorms that have not yet been approved by Provida. Having your recipe approved is a simple process. You can submit it via email it directly to recipes@provida.com. This should be done only by the person who created or discovered the recipe and not forwarded by a dorm chef, RA, or anyone else. Once you’ve had your recipe approved, then you’re welcome to share it with your dorm mates, etc. As always, students are allowed to post recipes they discover in the Recipe Exchange (or post the link to the recipe) but those found in the Makeover America Cookbook are not to be shared online. If you are sharing a recipe from an outside source, please include that source so that proper credit can be given. Even if you have made some minor tweaks to the original recipe, we still need to cite the source. We hope these guidelines will help you and your fellow students get the most from this experience.

    Facilities Tour

New Body University has a host of great places for the students, faculty and staff to use for gathering information and maximizing the game experience.

    NBU 101—The NBU Entrance Course
This is a place where potential students can go to learn how to post, edit, and otherwise navigate the Provida Forums.

NBU08 Spring--Provost's Office and Information Center

This is the official administration office. Any questions or concerns you have about NBU can be posted here.

    NBU08 Spring--Registrar's Office
This is the place to go for enrollments and dorm assignments. It should be the first stop for new students on campus.

    NBU08 Spring--Student Records Office
This is the place for reporting weekly credit grades. Only the RAs (or an appointed person from each conference) should post in their conference color here.

    NBU08 Spring--Food Services

This is the place to post recipes and ask questions related to the food portion of the 6WBMO and SMART programs. Students from all dorms are welcome to post here anytime.

    NBU08 Spring--QUAD
This is a general meeting place for student throughout campus—just a relaxed place for open conversation and fun. Students from all dorms are welcome to post here anytime.

    NBU08 Spring--LockerRoom

This is the place where exercise and fitness related tips and information will be available to everyone on campus. The primary focus of the Locker Room will be on fitness and well being using the principles of the 6WBMO. Information on different exercises, cardio and how to live a more active lifestyle will be discussed.

    NBU—Residence Halls
This is where the fun is. Students are assigned to resident halls. They are not allowed to post in halls other than their own. They can “snoop” in others to get ideas, etc. but not post there.

    Enjoy wandering our campus!

    Hello NBU!

This is where you will find the Link to all of the Kirby mail posts that I have written & posted -- the link takes you to the Main Post in the Quad that I update each time I post a new Kirby Mail.  This is just a permanent page that can be your shortcut to any of my posts.

    Quite Cool!

To reply to one of the Kirby Mails, just quote, copy, close the reply screen, then go to you own dorm and paste into a reply screen in your dorm. Or, you can reply in the Quad Big Smile we love to hear what you have to say.

Feel free to send me a Private Message if you ever have any questions about anything going on in NBU or any of my Kirby Mail pieces.

One of the greatest tools you can use to track your own success and to document your progress is by using a Food Journal &/or an Exercise Journal.  It is truly amazing what these little journals can do for you.   A former RA, Ivy, has graciously loaded these files onto a site she uses, many thanks go out to her for keeping these available to all of us, to download over and over.

Click on any of the links below to check out the journals and see which one fits you and your style.

    1. A planning tool in pdf or as a jpeg or image file. It fits in your Black Book

    2. The above planning tool, modified by Ivydt. Fits in an 8.5x11 inch binder or report cover, and is relatively easy on the eyes (read: it's big!)!  Must have MS Excel

    3. Kirby's version still isn't available... Fits in an 8.5x11 inch binder or report cover, and is also easy on the eyes! Must have MS Word.It can be modified to be a long or short journal.

    4. Another This is Janiselain's version, former RA. Also fits in an 8.5x11 inch binder or report cover. Must have MS Word.

    5. Provida Success Journal - This is the one that the Provida site hosts - it is very good as well.

I'm excited to be beginning a new NBU session and I'm very happy to welcome you to Griffin Hall!!

I'm Chris, I'll be your RA, (Resident Advisor) for the this NBU session.

A little about me.  As the nick implies, I'm from the Florida Space Coast.  I am married and have 2 children of my own, a son 20 (who is more or less back & forth in my house depending on his mood..lol) and a daughter in high school,  I also have a step son (19) who recently entered the Marine Corps.  We are also the proud "parents" of 7 (yep! I did say 7), cats (I’ll introduce them later) and (1) new puppy (well 35 lbs almost makes it a small horse..lol).  Trust me they listen better then the kids! hahaha.  I work in Corrections and have for the last 19 (almost 20) years.

This is my 8th NBU session and the 7th as RA.  I hope to make your NBU Experience a wonderful one as we get to know each other.

There will be weekly dorm activities that I assign, along with challenges between the different dorms.  Each of these activities will give you an opportunity to earn icons for your signatures.

Everyone will be asked to help in the dorm.  A “Help Wanted” ad will be posted as soon as most of the students settle in the dorm.  Also, please make yourself familiar with the Student Handbook that is posted by the Provost on Page One of our dorm.  I will highlight some of the rules in a different post.

So, everyone get comfortable, explore the dorm and find a room to your liking.  Feel free to post pictures and share your space.  In the kitchen, you will find plenty of On-Plan foods, cold water, recipe cards and state of the art appliances.  Our exercise room is equipped with all plan-friendly cardio and toning machines.  Let me know if there is anything missing and I will be sure to get it ASAP!

Now that I have chatted your ear off, let’s find out about each one of you.  A “Get To Know You” survey will follow soon along with a dorm commitment pledge.  Please take the time to fill them out and read all about your new dorm mates.  I look forward to getting to know all of you and having a great semester together!  Let’s be the best “losers” we can be!

Our A.R.A (Assistant Resident Advisor) for this session is KS.loser.  She''ll also be along shortly to say a big hello!

    WOOHOOO!!!  Let's get started!

Hello there!  My name is Debbie (not Deb, please) and I will be your ARA for this semester.  I am so excited to be working with Chris and I’m pumped up and ready for the fun and challenges we are going to have for these next 6 weeks.  I am looking forward to meeting each of you.

Summer will be here before we know it, and over the next few  weeks, we will be encouraging and supporting you to release some of those pounds you’ve been carrying around (I’m including myself in that, too!).  After all, we want to look good in those shorts and swimsuits, don’t we?

Feel free to ask questions!  We’re here to help each other.

    Are ya ready????  Let’s Lose!

    What is a Griffin anyways?

I figued that question would eventually come up and here's the information I have Wink

The Griffin (AKA – Gryphon, Griffon) is a legendary creature with the body of a lion and wings of an eagle. As the lion was considered the “King of the Beasts” and the eagle the “King of the Air”, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. The incredibly rare offspring of griffin and horse were referred to as hippogriff.

Dating back several centuries B.C., the Griffin was said to rule both air and land, watchful, loyal, strong, and swift. Its origin lies somewhere in the Middle East where it is found in the paintings and sculptures of the ancient Babylonians, Assyrians and Persians. In Greek mythology, they took gold from the stream Arimaspias and, neighbors of the Hyperboreans, they belonged to Zeus. In ancient times they were symbols of guardianship and the retribution of justice, but in the 19th century they assumed the mantel of harmless and even gentle creatures.

The vast majority of Griffins belong to the one species, Raptopantheria gryphos. There are two main varieties: the northern, or Hyperborean Griffin, and the Indian Griffin. The northern Griffin lived in the hilly forests and mountains of north-eastern Europe and Russia. These forested areas once extended deep into the Ukraine – much further south than they do today. The Indian Griffin is found in mountainous regions of North-Eastern India and the Middle East. The only other species of the genus is the opinicus, Raptopanthera opinicus, recognizable by its feline, as opposed to aquiline, forelimbs. It was always rare and is now most certainly extinct.

What is your Provida user name?
    KS.loser

Why did you pick that name?
I'm from Kansas and I want to be a loser!

What shall we call you (your first name or nick name)?
    Debbie, please (NOT Deb!)

    What is your favorite color?
I don't necessarily have a favorite, I love all colors

When is your birthday? (Month + Day)
June 2 (and I'll be 56 then, I'm not ashamed!  I've earned it!)

Which program are you using (6WBMO, Living Lean, or SMART Technique?)
6WBMO, and I have the SMART CD's and have listened through them once, but not sure how much it's helped, but it says you may need to listen through again, which is what I'm gonna do!

How long have you been on the program?
I received my kit in March '06 and NBU started a week later, so I was enrolled in the Spring '06 session.  Completed that, but then we decided to sell our home and 22 acres and move into town to make things easier for my DH (he had a stroke).  So I didn't enroll for the next session due to moving/selling, etc.  And I just went off the program..... I came back to my senses in January, this year and enrolled for the Winter semester.  So I am a 'junior' this semester!

How many NBU sessions have you completed, if any? Completed 2

    Where do you live?
NE Kansas, 60 miles west of Kansas City

What do you like best about living there?
Ask me where I want to live!  I was born and raised here, my DH was born and raised here and he wants to stay here.  So.....

What is your goal for this 6-week period?
to release 20 pounds (but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if it were more than that!)

What is your long-range weight goal?
I'd like to get to 140, but my main goal is to look good and be healthy.

How can this group help you achieve your goals?
By keeping each other motivated and encouraged.  I need the discipline and challenges!

    Who is your biggest cheerleader?
Oh, goodness!  A ton of people!  But mostly by sweetie, my kids, parents, friends........

    Who is your worst critic?
    Always myself.

What do you do to relax/play?
I do stained glass.  I've been doing it for about 7 years now.  My aunt, who is now 82 years old, taught me, and she's still teaching classes 5 nights a week!

What type of work do you do?
I'm a chef, laundress, housekeeper, day care provider for 2 youngest grandkids, personal shopper for my DH..... and on, and on, and on!

What are the names and ages of your kids? (If you have any)
My biggest kid is my DH - Stan the man!  Wink, he'll turn 57 in two weeks

Daughter, Jennifer, is 36 - married with 2 boys, Tyler, 14 and Cameron 12

Son, Jeff, is 34 - married with a son Jordan, 8 and a daughter (finally a granddaughter!) who is 7

Where do you like to go to think?
    Out on my patio

Finish this sentence: I love the smell of . . .
    lilacs

    What book(s) are you reading?
Our ladies group at church is starting "The Power of a Positive Mom" by Karol Ladd.  I'm not much of a reader, but I did read all of the "Left Behind" series.  Couldn't put it down!

What are your favorite TV shows?
Well, Food Network until I started this again.  Can't handle watching all that food that I can't have.  Now I watch trials on Court TV, HGTV, TLC

Where is your favorite place to walk?
When I do walk outside, I go to the track at the high school, which is a few blocks away.  I'm too embarrassed to walk around town yet (we live in a small town of about 900), but when I start releasing, I'll strut around town!  LOL

What's the furthest you've been from home?
My DH and I and my mother, and our pastor and his wife went to the Holy Land for 10 days in March 2000.  AWESOME!

Anything else you'd like to share?

Well, I think I've told you pretty much everything about myself!  If you want to know something, just ask!
