    Welcome to the QUAD

This is a general meeting place for everyone on campus. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to post here. This semester, it will also be the place to come to keep up with NBU campus news and events.

If you still need to enroll or find out which dorm you’ve been assigned to, stop by the Registrar’s Office. You are encouraged to check in with the Resident Advisor in your dorm without delay.

On behalf of the faculty and staff of NBU, I welcome you. Thanks again for choosing NBU to pursue your degree

    Rachel

    Welcome to the Quad!

I am so glad to have you visit! This is a place that you can come to just hang out, visit with others, ask questions, report your accomplishments and to just have some fun!

If you have any concerns or any questions please do not hesitate to ask. There is no such thing as a silly question. You can bet that if you have a question, others also have the same question. If I don't know the answer, I will find it asap.

Feel free to visit often and answer the questions that will be periodically posted, play the games and earn lots of icons. This is the place to have fun and gather information from others on the same weight loss path as you are.

Let us know when you have met a mini-goal, cheer on your conference and your fellow dormies, visit with your friends that are in other conferences. The Quad is here for you!

I guess I should tell you a little about myself. I have been on the 6wbmo program since March of 2007. I lost 130 pounds in 11 months. I am now Living Lean (have been for 15 months) and loving it. I have been involved with NBU for 8 semesters as student, ARA and RA. I have been married for 36 years to a great guy and we have two sons who have flown the coop! My youngest is getting married in September, so this is going to be a  busy summer for our family. I will be in the Quad as much as possible, but during the day I work and some days are much busier than others.

Please feel free to comment on questions ansked by others and get to know your fellow NBUers during this Intersession. Knowing others are on the same path as we and gaining support from each other is such a help in this journey of becoming healthy and skinny!

Welcome and let's make this a great Intersession '09!

Good Afternoon, I am with the Southwest Conference. I am from San Diego the town of Sunshine. I am here again to continue on my journey to reach my goal. It has been a long road  but I am almost there.  No time to give up now..Hopefully I will succeed this Intersession and reach goal. I do have a problem flip flopping off Plan, so that is why I am here.  For help and support from all my dormies on this journey. I have been in NBU since 2003 and reached goal in 2004.  I have been back a few times before for support but wasn't fully committed so I did'nt do so well.  I joined this last time in Spring/ Winter 09 and did quite well and then became RA for Koala Hall.  I continue down this road to reach my goal, and by golly I will get there. Don't give up if you mess up, just go back to eating on plan.  This plan works.  I first lost 35 lbs and it stayed off for 5 years. I slipped a little and I am back because I know the plan works.

Welcome one and all. Hope to see you around the Quad.  I am sure I will see some familiar faces..Good luck to everyone. Enjoy your time here..DB

Hello all, I am a 35 yr old, married with child and recently unemployed.  I am in the Northwestern Confernce from Oregon.

I am only in my second week but since I am unemployed and my whole support network is wrapped around my DH I was looking for something more.

My first goal is a 25lb loss but so far have not put it into weeks or days since I feel that would be discouraging if I don't make it.  I am trying to stay completely POP and let the weight loss take care of itself.

    QuestionMark-4-1.gif picture by bbadger4564

I joined Intersession because I need the challenge and the support to help me achieve the goals I have for myself and my weight loss plan.  I am so happy and fortunate that I found NBU last semester and made lots of friends.

My first mini goal, is 199 pounds or less, for my final goal I would like to see 180 by end of intersession.

I am going to work hard, play hard, stay POP and get it done - I relaxed way to much during break and was right at the threshold of 199 when things got rough and I gained back 5 pounds - which I am hoping to see disappear by intersession weigh-in!

I also want to be a blessing and support for my fellow NBU students. I am in the Southeast Conference and we already have a couple of new students.

Well I want to stop by Pam's office before I leave the Quad, then I am headed of campus to pick up a few essentials.

    Later KimsonJ

PAM  helloglad.gif picture by KimsonJThank you for running the quad for intersession.

Girl I am so happy you are here, you are just awesome to take this on.  I know you have a lot on your plate for this summer and I appreciate you volunteering what little time you have to NBU.  I will visit often, I am back on track and ready to be challenged, to party hearty and ENJOY NBU for another semester.

Catch you later, I am off to pick up some essentials for this week and then back to dorm to meet and greet more of my fellow dormies for this semester.

    Hey, okie dokie...

I'm in the southwest... but I'm from Missouri... figure that one out...

Anyways, I am BRAND NEW to the 6WBMO. Next week will actually be my official "week one." This week I've tried to stock my fridge, get a workout spot and workout outlined and all that good stuff.

    Why am I Here?

b/c I want to lose weight silly... :P no seriously b/c I learned I am pre-diabetic, but also learned have thyroid issues, which makes losing the weight difficult.

I've lost weight the "old-fashioned way" lots of gym time and closely monitoring calories and the weight came off.. it was just really slow... (like 2 yrs.) and I never quite reached my goal weight... so I'm trying this now.

My other big "why I'm here" is b/c I'm GETTING MARRIED in October! It's a second wedding, and not as formal, but I still want to be confident in the way I look and... as of right now... I just wince when I see myself. Not to mention I am completely out of clothes...

As for the Quad.. I'm "here" b/c I am brand new to things and I need some advice!! Lots!!

I've got a food scale, a body scale, and stocked my fridge, but I'm having trouble keeping up with the food... I've done nothing but COOK for the past 2 days, doing some trials for "the plan" and between my fiance, my daughter and myself, I've bought over $400 worth of food (also included in that is the price of a $60 food processor, $5.00 new cutting board and a $3.00 garlic press, charcoal, etc...) and I swear that we've already in TWO days consumed 1/2 the food!!!!!!!

Not to mention that all the recipes I'd like to try... I'm missing a key ingredient, like nsa broth or liquid smoke or oats (ground?) . I am going to have to make my own broth, but that means buying another $20-$30 or so dollars worth of food... and I swear I've already spent my budget for the month.

I am trying sooo hard, blending and processing and trying out homemade sauces and such, but I haven't really liked any of them yet... I spent 11 hours (in 2 three hour increments cooking on Tuesday, 3 hours cooking in the morning on Wednesday, and then another 2 hours cooking on Wednesday evening...) in the kitchen... I went through one bag 5 lb. of potatoes in that amount of time plus 3 potatoes from a 10 lb. bag I had my fiance go and buy...

Anyone else notice this major increase in their grocery bills and have suggestions for how to keep it down?

I guess I'm well stocked with the "basics" I have fresh fruits/veggies, fish/ground turkey in the freezer, sauces I've made (but don't particularly like) in the fridge and freezer, lean beef steaks and pork loin, rice and potatoes... as well as several new spices like cardamom, Mrs. Dash mesquite, and 2 or so others... as well as a couple of fresh spices in the fridge...

but we are going through them so fast!

I guess I'm just surprised at the amount we consume and a little worried that w/saving up for a wedding, paying off bills, and just having purchased $200 for the kit and $400 worth of groceries that I won't be able to keep up... I'm already sorta tired of cooking, but we've gone through all our chicken breasts (minus one) so I know that what I'm going to be doing this morning is firing up the grill and cooking the remaining 10 in the second package I've bought...

Oh and anyone have recipes for mashed potatoes with liquids other than nsa broths?

    Otter_Aonyx:

    Hey, okie dokie...

I'm in the southwest... but I'm from Missouri... figure that one out...

Anyways, I am BRAND NEW to the 6WBMO. Next week will actually be my official "week one." This week I've tried to stock my fridge, get a workout spot and workout outlined and all that good stuff.

Hi Otter! First of all, congratulations in making a decision to improve your lifestyle, health and to lose some unwanted pound! Good for you!

    Congrats on your upcoming marriage!

Take a deep breath! This can be daunting in the beginning, but that is why you are here!

I am sure your dormies as well as others who visit the quad will give you some great ideas.

When I started the program I just went with the basics. I didn't worry about the extras until I got used to eating poultry, veggies, and egg whites. After a couple of weeks I then started finding recipes that I liked from the recipe forum. You will find so many to choose from. Susan at NBU Food Services (click here) will also be able to help you with food questions. As far as chicken broth, when I boil my chicken breasts and save that broth and use it in my recipes. You can use nsa spices to give it the taste you like. Much cheaper than buying the broth in the store.

I found that my food scale was my best friend. Be sure to use it. Also, try sweet potatoes instead of white. I have grown to love them!

I know you will do great on this program. Stay involved and ask questions in your dorm, food services and here. I look forward to hearing about your accomplishments!
