In August of 2005, my husband mentioned seeing Michael Thurman on an infomercial. He had always suspected that my metabolism was the culprit for my weight problems, but I was always of a mind that I was born with it and there was nothing I could do to change that. He said he was impressed with the way this program was centered on different people's metabolism and wasn't a "one size fits all" approach.
He gave me the Makeover America website address and told me to check it out. A few days later I pulled up the website. Then about a week after that I saw an infomercial. Then I'd go back and forth, back and forth to the website and finally I decided to go ahead and order the program. The box was waiting for me when we got home from a weekend vacation. I must admit that the box sat in the house a few weeks and I avoided it as much as possible. I think I knew I was going to have to take a good hard look at where my body currently was physically and I was embarrassed even to myself.
Well, you need to know that at this point I was 239 lbs and had been starting to experience health problems. I was battling pain in my feet and under the care of a podiatrist. I was short of breath just walking up the stairs in my house and I often tried to hide my shortness of breath from my family. There was also another incident that often played in my mind and that was a conversation I had with my then 6 year old son. He had showed a picture of the two of us to a girl on his bus. He said "That's my mom!" and the little girl said "She's fat!" He had related this to me just before falling off to sleep and I proceeded to cry my heart out while he slept. I did not want to be known as the ‘fat' mommy and I was starting to get concerned for my health and the risks of not being able to participate fully in his life as he grew up.
That was it! I had to do something, and that "something" just clicked inside of me. Like a light going on. A week before my 39th birthday, I took out the box, pulled out the cards and setup my blueprint. My mantra was "I refuse to be fat at 40!" The first 5 weeks I ate on program and I lost 20 lbs with doing 30 minutes of light walking a few times a week. YEAH!
Then in my 6th week, I decided to get involved in New Body University (NBU). I was thankfully assigned to Spirit Hall which had a very special group assigned to it that session. I reveled in the accountability the NBU program gave me. The support, encouragement and understanding were key components in my success, and that continues to be a major contributor. I started putting more effort into all aspects of the program and my results really took off. I stepped up my cardio to meet the minimum requirements for NBU, I added in the toning program. I finished my first semester of NBU with a total loss up to that point of almost 40 lbs!
As time went by, and the pounds started to shed off. I reveled in the newly found time I had to myself while walking. I received an iPod for Christmas and indulged in my love for audio books. I can walk forever if I have a good book to listen to. The time I take for myself reflects the new confidence I have found through this program. The confidence to take the time I need to take care of myself, so that I can have the energy and desire to focus on others. I have not seen the podiatrist in over a year and I have abounding energy. I even started playing in a tennis league.
My 40th birthday was October 1st, 2006. I met my goal on June 25th, 2006! There's this famous soccer announcer that always yells "GOOOOAAAAALLLLLL" when someone scores. Well that's how I felt that day. For my birthday I asked my husband for some sessions with a personal trainer. The trainer asked me if I was still "dieting". I had to explain to her that I'm not "DIETing" but I am following a healthy diet. It's almost a year to my goal anniversary and I know I can do this program for life. This has been the MOST amazing year. I can do so much more than I could for so many years. I am no longer the "fat' mommy - I'm just me, Heather, and that's the way I like it!
Thanks to all who have supported and continue to support and encourage me along my journey. I am truly blessed and hope to return those blessings.
UPDATE: Nov 2007 - It's now been over a year and half since I reached goal and I'm still going strong, enjoying my success at the program. As a result of my success, I was honored to be invited to Los Angeles to be in the next 6WBMO infomercial! It was an incredilbe experience meeting so many successful people on the program. For those who are just starting out, I want you to know that "If you work the plan - the plan WILL work!"

Heather, I so understand how you must have felt when he just innocently told you the story about the other kid calling you fat, and how your life transformed as you started to take the time you needed for yourself, so that ultimately you can be there for others. Your story made me get weepy with empathy, but I'm smiling with happiness at the same time. The success stories on here have a way of doing that. Your success story is very inspiring!! Thank you for sharing it. Congratulations for your continued success. Being a mom of a kid that played soccor, I love that visual... GOOOOAAAALLLL! Hugs. Susan :)

Hpw, Wow, reading your story I feel like I got hit by a big wave. Good For You!!! One year down, -no pun intended. I remember our family playing and the kids dog piled on my DH and he yelled "come on Mom get on the pile" I remember hesitating trying to figure out a way not to put my full weight on them and just about the time I started to get on the side of the pile, my son yelled something about Dad, she's fat remember. He was little and he didn't intend it to be mean, just that youthful honesty. But--Ouch--. I didn't want to be the fat mom either. Great Job!!!

I am no longer the ‘fat' mommy - I'm just me, Heather, and that's the way I like it! You are way more than just Heather, you are Heather who took the bull by the horns and conquered your weight issues, pound by pound, day by day!!! What a wonderful thing you have done for yourself and for your precious family. You've lost weight but you've gained super health and I REALLY congratulate you for that. Oh...and as an added bonus...YOU LOOK TERRIFIC!!! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YOU!!!

My goals for weght lose are: 1. Lose about 10 lbs my first week. 2. Lose about 2 pants size in the 2nd week. 3. Stick with the plan till I weigh 165 or look great. 4. Not smoke so much. 5. Go for walks at least every day rain or snow. IM sitting here crying . I to am a FAT mommy. MY youngest son keeps telling me "Mommy why are you so fat" My answer is " cause I had kids and its baby fat" so he wants to know if I am having a baby. No I cant have any more and dont need any more. I have 4 kids now and love them with all my heart and soul. I need to lose the weight I gained for myself as much as for my kids. I know its not good to be over weight. I have tried so many times to lose but find nothing works for me. I was up late one night watching tv and seen the ad for the 6WBMO and decide it was time. Now its not easy for me to change how many times I eat a day. Im use to 1 to 2 meals a day. I drink all the water but dont feel like eating cause I feel full. Belive me I try to eat 5 to 6 small meals aday. But sometimes I can only eat 3 to 4. Will that change soon? Hope one of you can help me not be a fat mommy any more. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your stories they all real help me out. Di

I cleaned house last night from 1:30 till 7:00 pm inside and outside. My arms hurt this morning. I throw a bunch of fire wood we have in the yard into my wood shed then had to bend down and stack it all. Good for the tummy I hope but bad for the back today its stiff and fells like I got ran over by a truck. Hope all is well with you. Di

Heather- Thank you so much for your story, I am in search of motivation right now as I keep falling off the wagon to slimmer me. My mother was the fat mother and I vowed never to become her...but yet I turned out the same...although never near how heavy she is/was then I still feel like the fat mom. Maybe today I will take that serious step to being the slim mom I want to be! No more excuses! Thanks again for your story!

You are so inspiring to me. I like many others feel like the fat mommy too and have a similar story of young inosence (sp?) my son saying "you have a fat tummy" I want to be healthy and look good too. I have even quit going to the doctor which is horrible but the last couple times I had gone all they said was well you just need to lose weight they didnt give me any advise or suggestions just basically your fat get out of my office. I would leave just crying all the way home. I am tired of being fat. I know it is causing health problems. They arent major at this point but as I get older I know they will turn into major problems. High blood preasure, diebieties, knee problems, etc. I just want to thank you for inspiring me to do my best on the program and give it my all! I too will have photos posted here soon! I am too imperessed to post any right now!!

What a great story - I too was a fat mom, and I also didn't want to be fat at 40! My 40th birthday was 11/11 and by then I was well on my way. I still have a little ways to go to meet my goal, but I started as a tight 16 and now I am a very loose 12 - I'm gonna have to go buy me some 10's sometime this week. I haven't been this weight in YEARS! This is the best feeling ever! My greatest compliment was when my 12 year old daughter came up and hugged me (after I had lost about 25 pounds) and then looked up at me all surprised and said "Mom, your getting so skinny! My arms overlap around you now!". I almost cried right there!! Now we go shopping together for fun and have a blast trying on all the clothes! I don't hate clothes shopping anymore! Thank you MT - you have saved me from being fat the rest of my life! I now know what to do to never be fat again!! Debi PS - my husband would like to say thank you to MT as well. He always loved me no matter what my weight, but now he's REALLY happy!

"Just Heather" is certainly not an appropriate description of you, girl! You are a strong, courageous, hard-working woman who has conquered the "fat gene" for good!
I am proud of you as well as you should be! I am also priveleged to say I "know" HPW! From one Spirit to another!
I hope you had a great time in LA! I certainly cannot wait to see the infomercial!
This Tink's for you......

Oh my gosh Heather!! I didn't realize you were the same Spirit Hall Heather when we met in LA for the infomercial!!!
To say YOU are Beautiful and Stunning is an understatement...!!!
BRAVO!!!!! I am so happy for you and the thousands of other women who took control of your weight NOW... before you were in your fifties like I was... I wish I had discovered Michael Thrumond 20 years ago... I am so grateful for this Lifechanging program and for all the really amazing people I have met on my Journey!!
You are an INSPIRATION!!!!!!! The really inspiring part is keeping your weight off for over 1 1/2 years..That's the beauty of this program.. it's not a Diet.. It's a Lifestyle.. You got it!!!!!!
With lots of Love and Laughter~~
Bonnie~

I, too, can say I've had the priviledge of meeting you Heather. I met Heather in LA when we were there filming the infomercial. She has a wonderully "up " spirit and she shines in person. You can just tell she is so happy with herself and accomplishments.
Success Story for Dec'07 AND a spot in the infomercial!!!!! Way to go chica !!!! And well deserved due to all your hard work !!!! What a wonderful tribute to you.
I was a "fat" mommy too and I KNOW how horrible that feels. But we can be glad that we decided to do something to change that and the 6WBMO works so well. Never again will alot of us be the "fat" mama, friend, wife, sister etc...

CONGRATULATIONS Heather! Your weight-loss journey is an inspiration to me. I LOVE the explanation you gave to the personal trainer......"I'm not dieting, but I am following a healthy diet".
You look great! No more embarrasment for you now about how you look. You deserve to feel proud! WELL DONE.

CONGRATULATIONS Heather! Jill posted a pic in Spartan Hall from the LA trip - you (and Jill) look awesome! Not the "fat" momma anymore, by any means ... and more than "Just" Heather.
From one NBU-er to another ... sending big hugs your way.
PS: Say "hi" to Guido for me on your next walk - okay?

Congrats Heather! You truly are an inspiration!! Guess what...we were recently in Pelican Hall with each other...but even neater, I believe you and I were once in Spirit Hall together and Deb was our RA! I dropped out of that NBU session back then and didn't finish it, but you have now truly inspired me...as I now think that if I would have stuck with it, it would have been possible for me to be where you are now!! There is so much in the story that you told of what inspired you to get on the ball where I see myself right now!
Thank you so much for sharing your story! Come visit us Pelicans sometime!! We miss you!
