    Shepherd's Pie 3

    BMOS Note: As a serving option for other family members not following 6WBMO, the recipe author sprinkles cheese on top and bakes an additional 5 minutes until cheese melts.

    • 1 lb ground turkey breast or ground chicken breast
    • small onion, chopped
    • 15.25 oz can nsa green beans (I used French cut) or comparable quantity, fresh
    • 8 oz nsa tomato sauce
    • ½ teaspoon ground pepper
    • 1 teaspoon nsa Italian Spice blend
    • 2 medium potatoes
    • nsa chicken broth, to taste
    Peel, dice, cook and mash potatoes. Add broth to taste. Put aside.

    Brown turkey/chicken with the onion until done, drain. In casserole dish combine all ingredients except potatoes. Top with layer of mashed potatoes. Cover. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes, until heated through.

    I made this tonight. It was fantastic, although I used frozen greenbeans rather than canned. Anyway, I'm always excited when I can find a ground turkey recipe that actually tastes good.

    Oh yeah, I through in some crushed red pepper for a little kick.

    Anyway, thank you for this one, it's a keeper.

    I don't believe that green beans are considered free veggies. If this is a mistake in the recipe then type B's can not have this for a midafternoon snack. I am going to try this for dinner tonight though. It sounds really yummy!

    Sorry-- have been unable to post due to server issues. Yes, green beans are free veggies. You can find the list of free veggies by clicking on the last forum under my signature.

    Thanks Gail for setting me straight about the green beans. All this time I didn't know they were a free food, Im very happy to have this info now, makes things better for me! LOL Well I tried this Friday night for dinner and it was AWESOME! Im so very happy to have another great recipe to add to the ever growing collection I have already. Makes being on plan so much easier and makes me feel like I can go the distance and reach my goals! Thanks!

    I made this for dinner tonight and it was very yummy.  I also added the red pepper flakes which gave it a great kick.  I will definately make this again.  thank you for sharing the reciepe.
