Several members have expressed concerns about technical problems and how to report them and be updated about when they are resolved.  Some issues affect all of us.  Others are individual.  Any problems you experience can be submitted directly to our Online Help Desk for individual attention and specific recommendations.  If you are experiencing a problem that may be specific to your chat forum account, please submit a request there and include your login name and the email address associated with your account.  Feel free to reply to this thread with comments about existing issues or to ask questions about a problem you encounter.

Many folks have been using the thread for forum related questions for this purpose, and it's fine to do so.  That thread is very long, however, and was originally intended to help folks learn how to use our forum system.  The focus of this thread is to deal directly with issues that indicate that something is broken, and to provide a centralized location for folks to discuss alternatives for something that isn't working optimally.  We've got a great bunch of folks in our communities who have been sharing ideas in their support threads, and we'd love to see ideas shared in a way that everyone can benefit.

The three issues shown below are not a full list of difficulties folks have experienced recently, yet are the ones that seem to be affecting everyone at this time.  I spend more time behind the scenes, yet hope to check in and update this semi-regularly when necessary.  Hopefully I or someone else will have good news to report very soon.

Our current email problems affect subscriptions and other notifications including new passwords.  This is not a problem with our forum settings or software, yet rather the email server or servers that messages are routed through.  We do not have an estimate of when this will be fixed yet the folks who can address this for us have been notified and informed that this is an extremely critical issue.

Our Search feature seems to be behind the times and not giving results more current than late October; we aren't sure if it will catch up on its own or if there is something else affecting it.  During several months where our Search feature was not working at all, many members found that using Google Search and limiting results to forums.provida.com helped them find things.

Bookmarks seem to have disappeared for some folks.  The feature itself seems to function properly.  We suggest creating a folder in the Bookmarks or Favorites of your web browser as a work-around and using that for saving the pages for threads that you want to be sure to find later.

I hope this thread helps keep you informed as to how things are progressing.  If you have been posting elsewhere in our forums about technical difficulties with our forums and website, please post a link to this thread there to help anyone interested in reading about and providing feedback for problems to do so here and guarantee that we'll see it.

We want everything to work smoothly, and are working to achieve that.  We appreciate your patience at this time.

There will be planned intermittent outages between 4pm-8pm today as we upgrade to a new server. Each one shouldn't be more than a couple of minutes long.

Though Jess didn't specify, I'd assume that's 4:00 - 8:00 pm PST, by the way.  Smile

Our Search feature seems to have caught up now, and is returning recent posts in searches.  It still takes a little time to update after a new post is made.  It does seem a little slow for searches that give a lot of results, yet that isn't unusual.

There have been a few unexpected outages for these 24/7 support forums recently.  Our IT folks are aware and they hope that things will now continue running smoothly.  If the web address for a page in our forums loads yet only reads "Service Unavailable" that indicates a problem on our end of things.  We regret the inconveniences that have been caused by such outages and appreciate your patience as ongoing stable solutions are being sought.

I don't know if this is something that has already been talked about. I've just come back to the boards after a year or two. I am trying to change my email address in my profile. However, everytime I do, it tells me that my email is invalid. I have comcast as my provider. Should I notify the help desk for help or is this something already being worked on? Thanks!

That is not a system-wide problem.

Is it possible that you've already created another account at some time with your new email address?  You might try requesting a password reset with that address and see if you get something (it will include the login name for the other account if one exists).  Each account in our system needs to have a unique email address so if one exists in our system already the invalid message will appear if another account tries to use it.

You can definitely submit a request to the help desk for assistance.  If you include your login name and both the email address associated with it and the new one you'd like to use they should be able to figure out what's going on with your account and post a resolution on the ticket for you.

Have you read through the description of how to do it here?  I don't have a better way to describe the process.

I came up with a tutorial back in 2008 which helped some folks with posting of tickers. It is long, but maybe it will still be of use:

    1.    First, make yourself a ticker. I think most of us go here to do that:   http://www.tickerfactory.com
    •        There are apparently other places, but I am not sure if my instructions will
work for those. Probably, as long as they are creating HTML code, which is what you need here.

    2.    Once your ticker is created, copy the html code that you will find as you scroll down the page. It should look something like this:      <ahref="http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/w2lhFEv/"><img border="0" src="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w2lhFEv/weight.png"></a>

    •        Be sure you get the html code, not the EZcode or BBcode or any other option.

    •        Also, make sure you get ALL of the code. If you miss a bit at the beginning or end, you will end up with some leftover garbage attached to your ticker.

    3.    Now, back in the Provida forums open your PROFILE.

    4.    On the first page of your profile, click on: UPLOAD A SIGNATURE

    5.    A box will open titled UPLOAD A SIGNATURE

    6.    First click on HTML in the tool bar at the top of that box (this is a change from where it used to be found).

    7.    Another box will then open titled: HTML SOURCE EDITOR

    8.    Paste the html code you copied from Ticker Factory into that box, right after the code that is already there, which will look like this: <p>&nbsp;</p>

    9.    Then click on OK at the bottom of that box.

    10.    You should now be back in the UPLOAD A SIGNATURE box, where you should see the ticker you designed.

    11.    Click OK at the bottom of that box.

    12.    You will now be back on your PROFILE page.

    13.    Click on VIEW YOUR SIGNATURE on that page.

    14.    Another box will open titled VIEW YOUR SIGNATURES.

    15.    Check the ACTIVE button next to the signature you want to use, then click SUBMIT at the bottom of that box.

    16.    That will take you once again to your PROFILE page.

    17.    Now, you are almost done. Just click the blue SUBMIT button at the bottom of your PROFILE page.

    18.    Voila! Your ticker should now appear at the bottom of all of your posts (even old ones).

NOTE: You can easily update your ticker without going through all the steps above. Once you finish making your ticker, you should see a notice near the top of the page that says something like this:
IMPORTANT: To update your ticker, click on it or bookmark this web address:
    http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wjXRAYS/

So be sure you do bookmark that! Then all you will have to do is visit that page and make changes. They will automatically be reflected on the Provida forums!

I know this was a bit verbose. But it is pretty detailed and precise and, I hope, clearer than mud.

    Cheers!

    DebBEE

I just noticed that the very end of my post above could use an update. It is the bit about updating your ticker once it is done. (How ironic.) Anyway, to update, all you have to do is click on your ticker and it will take you to the site where you created it, and you then click on the edit/update weight button.

    Cheers!

Our WebChat feature isn't working at this time.  It currently displays an error message stating that the licensing isn't valid, which is puzzling.  We aren't sure when this might be resolved, and are sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

It seems to be authenticating properly now.  Please post here or contact the online help desk if it stops doing so.

The first character in the Body Blueprinting field will show up as your Body Type next to posts that you make.
