yogurtau:Hi there. I just signed up for enrollment in the summer 09 session. I know that it starts on September 17, but I will be traveling that week. I want to start right away, but will not be able to avoid restaurants for about 4 days (from the 17th through the 20th). Can you advise me on the best way to handle this?
Thanks,
Gretchen
Actually, our semester starts a bit sooner than that.
This
semester’s schedule begins with enrollment starting August 8th followed
by Move In starting August 12th. Students begin to earn credits during
RUSH Week which kicks off on August 17th. Enrollments will go through
the end of Week 4 (September 13th). Credits will be earned through
September 27th and Final credits are to be reported by students ON
September 28th.
So you should be able to have a good handle on things before you travel. As for what to do about restaurants, there are some great tips in the binder that came with the 6WMBO in the Eating Out Guide. You could also check out the Travelling & Eating Out forum for some tips from other Provida users.
If you are in a restaurant that isn't covered in the guide, use the basic principals of the eating plan to help you made the best choices possible. Don't be afraid to let the waitstaff know that you would like a salad with no dressing or that you don't want added salt or butter used when your food is prepared, etc. When all else fails, go to a local grocery store and purchase what you need to keep yourself on plan and eat your meals from your hotel.
I have personally followed all these suggestions myself when I have traveled and found that it is totally possible to stay on plan AND have a good time.
Good luck!
Rachel
