Having Fun with WiiFit... cardio, toning, yoga and balance games...
Hi Everyone. I want to make a fun workout place here on Provida for us WiiFitters to chat about our WiiFit Workouts.

We are not experts, just 6weekers/Smarties working out with Nintendo's yoga, toning, cardio and balance games.

Are you a WiiFitter? Or looking at the WiiFit system? Come on in and see what others are doing.

In your first post... please share your name, age, location, Provida experience, and WiiFit experience, so we can get to know each other.

I thought I would start this thread out with some "general info" on the WiiFit, in case some of the readers aren't familiar with the Wii system. And YES, you must have a "Wii gaming system console" before you can play the "WiiFit game and balance board"

To help you get familiar with the WiiFit... let me explain a few things...

    EXERCISES
There are many different exercises you can choose from, and they last between 1 and 3 minutes. There are sessions for yoga, toning, cardio and balance games. When you first get your system, there are only the "basic" exercises "unlocked" for you to use. As you do more, your system will unlock more exercises and more reps of the existing exercises (just like other Wii games)

    BALANCE BOARD
While doing the exercises, you stand on a "balance board", that records every little tiny variation in your feet. There is an on-screen "yellow circle" and your "red path of movement", this shows where your balance IS and where it SHOULD BE.

    TRAINER
You mirror the trainers movements on the tv screen, and she "narrates" how you are SUPPOSED to do the exercise, AND critiques YOUR movements as well. She usually says either "you are doing great!" or "you are a little shaky". When she says the later, sometimes I want to slap her! lol. She also gives you tips on breathing and what parts of your body you should be feeling the workout.

    SCORING
The "feedback" also includes "scoring". You get a score on how you did on that exercise, AND what "place" you came in for the "top 10" record. If more than one person plays, then you are competing with them, but if you are the lone exerciser, then you are just competing with yourself.

    TIMER
There is a "timer" that keeps track of your actual minutes of execise. Unfortunately, I find that it's about 2:1 ratio. I spend as much time IN-BETWEEN exercises, as I do ACTUALLY exercising. For instance, today I was counted for 16 minutes of yoga and 9 minutes of toning, so, that is 25 minutes of exercise, but I was on the WiiFit for 50 minutes, jotting down my scores, clicking through the various tips the trainer gives me and selecting which exercise to do next.

    FEEDBACK EQUALS MOTIVATION
All of what I have explained is the "feedback" that MOTIVATES me. It's what keeps me going. It's what gets me to do "one more exercise". It's what gets me to "stretch a little further". It's what gets me to "try a little harder". So, even though exercise is not my "favorite pasttime"... I have found what gets me to do it.

    PLAYING WITH OTHERS

There is a way to play with others around the world, I just haven't figured out how yet. If any of you know how... please let me know.

If anyone has anything to add to this general info... please jump in. All are welcome to share their experiences.

My name is Susan (Susan3650) and I live in Anchorage, Alaska! I am 44 years old with a husband and two children (daughter 18 and son almost 13).

I have used the WiiFit for 5 months now and love it. I have been on Provida with 6wbmo and SMART Techniques for over 6 years. I reached goal in 364 days (less than one year lol), stayed at goal for about two years and was on the SMART Infomercial. But then I became too liberal with the "living lean" program, and gained some back. I'm working hard to reach my weight goal again with 15 lb. to go. Optimal Health is my life-long goal.

Recently, I named my wiiFit trainers JODY and CODY. They have been here for five months and I was just calling them "hey you", so, I figured I better give them names! lol (the wiiFit has animated, life-like trainers, both female and male, but no names given LOL)

I'm looking forward to working out with other WiiFitters!

Thank you for posting this.  I have had my WII since November and I was considering buying the Wii Fit.  Now with your help, I am certainly going to get it.  I will post back once I have it and have started using it.  Once again, Thanks!

    Hi

Great idea....I have the console, but not the Wii Fit with balance board. I've been looking, but they are tough to come by. Good idea for a thread. :)

     Hi Susan

I also hit living lean and I thought I could go off the plan and stay the same weight. Wrong!  I have also gained and need to get my rear in gear and lose this extra.

The Wii fit is the perfect program for the ones that hate to exercise. You don't realize you are really getting fit, you just think you're having fun. It's great to get the family together and challenge them to a night of fun getting great exercise.

I think my favorite is---- all of them. Strength, yoga, balance and fat burner. I have just a couple of doors to open and I've made the rounds. The boxing is one of the ones that pops the sweat. The Wii is ok for fun but the Wii fit is a great workout. I also like that it keeps track of your weight, your goals and you can set how much to lose in so many days, weeks or months. Also if you do any outside exercising you can add that to your exercise page. Many neat features it has to help you. I have not hooked it up to the cable to see how you can play with others yet.

Hi Yvonne, Butterbee and Donna Val. Glad to see you three here this weekend. I'm looking forward to having lots of activity here in the new "WiiFit Gym". lol.

Yvonne and Butterbee... so you both have the Wii and now just have to find the WiiFit? When I bought mine last October, they were hard to come by here in Anchorage. But now, you can find them easily at Walmart, Fred Meyers/Kroger and Game Stop. You can also buy them online at ebay and places like that. Good luck, and check back here often to get motivated even before you buy your system.

Donna Val... you have had your WiiFit even before I got mine! It's great to know someone else who relates to the "having fun while exercising" thing. For me though, it's even more than having fun... it's the "feedback" that helps me keep on going. I hope you come back often to chat about your WiiFit workouts. It's more FUN working out with others!!!

hi susan and all i too have a wii fit got it back in october and love it, it actually got me doing muscle workout consistently was doing it every day for a few months unfortunately i hurt my shoulder at the end of october and had to refrain from doing alot of the muscle workout because it involves the upper body i had surgery on my shoulder recently so am 1 armed at the moment but i have been doing the lunges and squats plus hula hoop and step aerobics plus the balance games i love the fact it keeps track of time spent and that its fun i have opened up all the different games and am up to 45squats and 20 lunges now

as far as 6wbmo i got to goal back in august of 2007 and stayed within range for about a year but have also put some back on and am trying to get it off mainly though i just want to get fitter and tone up and make sure my size 14's fit which they still do although at times a bit snug

glad to see others using the wii fit for their muscle workout and excercise i am waiting for the jillian michaels wii fit workout to come out here in australia and have it on order am really looking forward to trying it out once i get it i should imagine it will really kick my butt into gear

Hi everyone!  I have the wii Fit.  I actully just started to use it.  I had back surgery 6 weeks ago so am not able to do a lot.  I unlocked the advanced step today!  WAHOO! I only wish it went a little faster. I don't score well because i get ahead of the game.....lol!  But I am having fun using it.  The hollahooping is fun too!  Can't help but laugh when I get hit in the head with the hoop.....LOL too funny!  I have not done the yoga or strength training yet as I dont want to bend the wrong way.  I go to the doctor on the 7th, hopefully he will release me to do more then.

Hello WiiFitters! I want to respond to the last four gals who have posted here. Would love to get some dialog going between us.

    Shazzaus,
Wowsers, you are my "LUNGE HERO"... 20 lunges and 45 squats huh? Those things make my quads scream! I hear you as far as trying to fit BACK into my "goal clothes". Let's use WiiFit to put the FUN into being CONSISTENT with our workouts! Way to go working out after your injury. Injuries are an "easy excuse" that we often use to get lazy and complacent. Wow, you are "way down there" in Australia huh? That is great you found a thread with more Aussies on it. What is the "Jillian Michaels WiiFit Workout"? Is it an "advanced wiiFit game" or a video/dvd?

PrestoKimmy, YES, keeping the CHARTS of the WiiFit going in the right direction is very helpful to me also. WHICH EXERCISE do you like best?  I see you have just started back on the 6wbmo. Posting in the "Doing the program with PCOS" threads. Do you know ChrissySue? Good for you trying to keep your motivation going!

ChrissySue, way to go unlocking the Advanced Step. I'm sure you like it better than the Basic Step. YES, I agree, it need to go FASTER. I try to get "into it" by swinging my arms with mii.. which for some reason is a challenge to me. I totally agree, it's a hoot when you get hit in the head with the hula hoop. LOL. Did you go to the doc Tuesday and get released to do more exercizing? I see you are involved in lots of threads, including the NBCC 2009 and the "Doing the program with PCOS". Do you know PrestoKimmy?

Stephanie, so you have been using the WiiFit for a few weeks now? Glad you like it like we do. WHICH EXERCISE is your favorite? I see you are still involved in your NBCC 2007 thread. That is great to keep the accountability and friendships. I was part of the original staff of NBU, and have continued with some of my same group.

Yvonne, ButterBee and Donna, How's it going with you three ladies? Hope you stop by here often and let us know how you are doing with your WiiFit.

LET'S SHARE OUR FAVORITE EXERCISE IN THE YOGA OR TONING SECTIONS

    WiiFit ROCKS!

I didn't see this answer anywhere as I scrolled through, so sorry if it's in here already and I missed it...

When doing Wii fit as your workout, do you eat a pre-workout meal as you normally would?  It doesn't seem to me that the Wii fit is enough of a workout to warrant the extra food....but want to know what you all do!

I am disappointed with the advanced step.  I mean the routine lasts 3 minutes or what not and doesn't change.  I need some variety.  I googled this, and I don't see any answer.  Can anyone explain what Free Step is?  Thanks..

Hi Baukm and Gip1971. Glad to have you posting questions in the WiiFit thread. Hope you will stop by often and share your experience with other WiiFitters!

bauckm:  You pose a good question about the PWO (Pre-WorkOut Meal). Do we need it if we have a "light" workout like we sometimes get using the WiiFit??? Everything I have seen from BMOS Dolores, read in the black book, and have noticed from personal experience is... TRY IT AND SEE, BECAUSE EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.

I have personally gotten "light headed" after a treadmill workout or doing the 6wbmo Band #16 Breathing exercise if I don't eat a PWO. So, I know FOR ME... I need the extra food when I have a "medium or hard workout". But I don't think I need the "extra fuel" for the lighter workouts where I am NOT in my THR or "not sweating". So, that is kind of MY guide whether to eat the PWO or not.

Hope you come back and chat about your experience with this here with other WiiFitters! Excellent question!

Wow, you are looking great. I see you have updated your profile to show your current weight as 122, but you left your goal weight as 140. Is there a reason for that? Maybe to show you exceeded your original goal?

GIP1971: I know what you mean as far as the "Advance Step" a disappointment. I was really hoping there would be MORE to unlock. I mean, it's good, just NOT ENOUGH. And forget the "Free Step" and "Free Run"... those are designed to work with a "ticking noise" to keep you on pace, and then you can "watch tv on your screen" while the "ticking noise" is happening in the "background" of the system. I wasn't impressed.

Have you tried the "island run" yet? Instead of "walking in place", I actually walk around the room, and change directions of clockwise and counter-clockwise in the room. Makes it more of a "real" workout for me.

And the "Boxing" game gets the SWEAT happening. The "beginning" part just to get you familiar with the motions, then the "advanced part" is much more complicated, so you might find that to be a good challenge for you

I have heard that there are NEW game of some sort coming out. Some with "sensors" for your wrists and ankles, where you don't even have to stand on the balance board. So, I'm looking forward to checking the new games out.

hi all thought id bump this to the top i purchased the ea sports acitve trainer in a box for the wii and i have to say its 100% better than the wii fit there are preset workouts so you dont have to make your own up unless of course you want to it has 3 intensity levels easy medium and hard and boy is it a great workout it also comes with a leg strap and resistance band and the workouts kick your butt bigtime, the only thing it doesnt have is a dedicated abs workout but as the wii fit does can do those excercises on the wii fit

there is also a 30 day challenge and a journal for  food and lifestyle  that you fill out i highly recommend it

Hi, I am Jen. . .. I restarted the program 7/1/09 and I have also owned the wii fit since june 2008, maybe used it three days until 7/1/09.  Since then I have used it every day at least 30 minutes.  This week I am closer to or over an hour each day.  I use it for the free run and set it to 10, 20, 30 mins and walk fast around the house.  There is a very large range when doing it, and it has been great for all the rainy weather we have had.  I do the hulahoop and super hulahoops alot.  Since 7/1/09 -- I have everything unlocked, even the advanced stages.  Tomorrow I am going to try the longer superhulahoops.

Has anyone noticed if they are losing more weight using the wii fit or if walking is the way to go?  I have the wii fit and used it for a while, but then stopped...now I just use it to weigh myself.  I also noticed that my wii fit weighs people 10lbs lighter then the scale.  My sister n law has the same 10lb difference at her house.  Anyone else notice?  I love that it keeps track of my weight and BMI!!!!

     Thanks!!!

Has anyone tried WiiFit Plus?  I happen to love it.  They have new games and you can develop your own workout.  I love the yoga and some of the new games.  I try and do it every day, at least to track my BMI.  I don't trust the weight because it takes off the weight of your clothes...but I want to track my BMI.  :)
