CMF118: I thought I would jump in to say walking 1.5 hours at one time is really not recommended.>
Thanks for the advice. I really enjoy my long walk with my baby, but the last couple of days I've cut it down to an hour. It's not as long as I'd like, but something is better than nothing and consistency is the key. I also have a heart rate monitor and stay between 60-65% the entire time.Do you know if/when I can start RUNNING. I know that gets me out of the fat burning zone, but I really enjoy running. Maybe for the first 10 minutes? Last 10 minutes? 45 minutes once a week? Thanks again, Christine.

My new food of the week to prepare is sweet potato. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
-Jenn
I have no creative ideas for sweet potatoes. I tried a few recipes and they were horrible. I've found what works best for ME is to just bake 4 or 5 at a time, remove them from their shells and mash them. Then I have a container full all ready to go for the week. I just pop 1/2 cup in the microwave and I'm good to go.Good luck with your goals and hope you continue to find foods that work for you!

Natalie, As you decrease your body fat percentage, you will find that you have to speed up to stay in your fat burning range. When reducing, I may jog as fast as 4-4.5 mph on my treadmill and still be in my zone. Once you are no longer trying to lose fat, you may consider running again and pushing your heart rate higher. This will help burn off calories and build stamina, but it isn't advised while you are reducing. Running now may actually work against you. As I said before, overdoing the exercise while reducing could lead to muscle loss. This has been a common concern for many people when they hit the living lean phase. Many look back and see how much muscle they have and find a need to work to build muscle. I was one who found I needed to build and I can say it is a difficult balancing act for C types. We tend to build mass quickly when eating the wrong foods and the foods that would increase our muscle mass are the wrong foods. So be sure to take it slow and stay in your fat burning zone. Do your muscle toning, working toward toning and build in only in the areas you know need work. And eat your pre-workout meal when required. I hope this helps. Jenn, Sweet potatoes are a favorite of mine. Once baked, I can reheat and top with cinnamon and Stevia or maple flavoring, or even sugar free caramel coffee syrup. Sometimes I add my past. egg whites to the mash before reheating for a complete snack. I find it doesn't really change the taste. I can also boil the sweet potatoes, skins on, until soft then cool, rub the skins off and mash or cut into slices. Sweet potato fries or chips are also good. The trick is finding the right seasoning to sprinkle on them.

Well I broke 150 today! WAHOOO! A little success is definitely the best form of motivation! Guess this means I HAVE to get out and walk today, though I certainly wasn't feeling that way when I woke up. lol Today marks the end of week 3 so tomorrow I'll be measuring myself. STAY TUNED FOR THE RESULTS!

Week 3 results: -5.5 pounds -4.5 inchesI'm so pleased with these results! I had almost no results in week 2, but week 3 really stepped it up. I wouldn't be surprised to see this taper off again by next week, but I'll keep doing what I'm doing, staying POP, and see what week 4 brings. My goal is at least 2 pounds and 1 inch.

Hey guys!
I am just returning from a weekend visiting my family in FL. The 4th was not an on-plan weekend, so I am starting fresh tomorrow.
As of Friday morning, I had lost 6 pounds. Not bad for my third week. I have not measured inches, though.
I noticed that food that I had normally found tasty to be too sweet or salty. After 3 weeks without, I was turned off. I missed my meals and mealtimes. I wonder if anyone else here noticed the change in taste.
On a more exciting note: I will be starting my slow jog next week, and bought my first pair of jogging shoes. They are Nike's, and I made sure to have everything measured (foot size and width). Also, I tried them on. This may not seem like a big deal to others, but with 3 kids (1,3,5) and a hectic schedule, I do not get to do things for me very often.

Jenn I noticed a small change in taste too. I've also noticed that I've grown to like egg whites and taste the natural sodium in them.... and oatmeal with a couple berries is like candy to me. lol Good for you on getting a good pair of shoes and doing something for yourself - now you'll REALLY start to see results! I'd suggest you definitely WALK rather than slow jog. I have a "runners heart" and a slow jog STILL puts me to 70%. Take it nice and easy and BREATH! (4 steps in through nose, 2 steps out through mouth). I'm finding that breathing is really helping me loose weight, which leaves in me awe! I've never walked until now, as I prefer to run 45 minutes at a 7 mile pace. This is SO MUCH kinder to my body, and I'm amazed at the results. I'm sure with 3 kids it'll be hard to get in an hour EVERY DAY.... but even if you just manage 30 minutes, consistency is the key! GOOD LUCK AND CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR NEXT WEEKS RESULTS! By the way... Both you and Karri should get your measurements! You'll be surprised at the motivation those small results give you, versus just pounds. Plus it's awesome to look back and see how many inches you've truly lost - where you WERE compared to where you ARE!-Natalie

I promise to get a measuring tape next time I'm in the store. I walked 15 minutes today before teaching my Zumba class.
Getting an hour in 5 days/week is tough, so I am for 45 minutes. My walk (and soon to be slow jog at times) helps me focus and wind down. I will alternate the two, but if my heartrate gets to high, I will have to alternate to keep it lower. I am fairly active, so it takes more for my heartrate to go up.
I am back to my regular food, and feeling better with it.
By the way, I baked the sweet potato and put cinnamon and stevia on it. Delish!

End of week 4!!! :)
Week 4 Results
-2.4 pounds
- 1 inch (All from me bumb!!!)
My goal was 2lbs and 1 inch. Now THAT'S satisfaction! I knew with the Holiday weekend I shouldn't set anything TOO ambitious. Progress - that's all I ask. Karri you said you wouldn't be on for awhile but still following plan. You true to that? 5 weeks until the wedding - there's still time if you've been slipping up. Jenn did you get your measuring tape?

Hey everybody. I'm sorry to report I totally fell off the wagon. =( I didnt gain anything but obviously didnt lose any either. ughhh I'm gonna try again next week. My husband is about to TDY(temporary duty assingment) next week for 3 weeks. It will be much easier for me to stay on plan when he isnt around tempting me. Maybe after 3 weeks of being on plan I will be able to resist his temptations. Ill keep you guys updated. I'm so happy you all are doing so well!!!!!!!!

Sorry to have been silent for so long!
We went out of town again, and it was difficult to stick completely to the plan, but I did my best. Most things were on plan, but a few things were off.
I have lost 9.5 pounds since week 1. I have lost a total of 15 pounds since June 1 (I was motivated about purchasing 6WBMO that I had started walking more).
Monday, I slow jogged a contiguous mile! I was so proud. Combined, I walked and jogged 3 miles. What used to take me 48 minutes now takes me 41. If I can get that down to 35 minutes, I will add one more mile (to bring things back around 45 minutes).
Tuesday, I walked 1 mile and taught Zumba for 45 minutes. On the days that I teach Zumba, my weight drops (maybe I should do that more?).
Tofu has been out of the picture, but I still use one form of soy (TVP). I find that eventhough I have the legumes, that TVP packs a protein punch that I desperately needed. Without it, my nails and skin become a bit brittle.
Even though I am not yet below 200, I am looking better. Yes, I will get a measuring tape today.
Good luck to all!
-Jenn

Jenn, I too have a problem with dry hair, and brittle nails. I use the flax oil to supplement that instead of the fattier proteins. It may be something you want to check into. Flax oil is not absorbed into the body like other fats but it does leave enough residue to keep the hair and skin softer. That's not to say that you should cut out the TVP but it may allow you to cut back to one or two meals a week. You may see better success.

Well this has not been my best week. I didn't have a bad weekend, but I didn't eat on a strict schedule and then Monday I just kinda gave up. I'm back on track, but I feel that I've essentially lost 4 days, despite my consistent exercise. I WAS 146 on Friday and now on Wednesday I'm over 148. It's kind of a bummer knowing that I measure in two days and I'll be lucky to have LOST anything. :( Better than Gaining but still....I'm just disappointed in myself, knowing that I COULD have been 143 but instead I'll be lucky to be 147. I know these numbers aren't a HUGE deal, but I had a really strict 8 weeks to loose 30lbs and now I'm sure I won't meet it. I LOVE hitting my goals, and my strong will and stubborn personality ensures I do. AS A RESULT I'M AIMING TO HAVE A PERFECT WEEK FROM TODAY TO NEXT WEDNESDAY! PLEASE JOIN ME. ONE POWER WEEK!!!
Afterwards I'll shoot for ANOTHER perfect week, but for now just one at a time. If I can be absolutely perfect for the next three weeks maybe I'll meet my goal after all. It's only 3 weekends. No big deal. I can do it. :) AND SO CAN YOU!So here I am... challanging you - the moment you read this - to commit to 7 days of perfection. Just 7. What's that? You're not sure if you're up for it? Sorry my friend, it's a little late... you just read this, thus the challenge has begun!!! :)(I'll be waiting for you results a week from now)!

Just me - checking in. End of week 5. I'm STUNNED at how quickly it's gone. How quickly JULY has gone, for that matter. This week I was a smidgen sloppy, had a couple rough patches - therefore no impressive results. :(Week 5 Results: Maintained the same weight -1 inch. What are all of your results thus far?

Hey guys!
I'm just checking in. I hit a milestone today. 10 pounds! I am soo thrilled. Only 6 more pounds until I'm in the one hundreds again.
Yesterday, I jogged 2 miles contiguously. I was so proud of myself! All totalled, I weigh 16 pounds less than I did on June 1.
I still have not bought a tape measure, but my tummy is flatter and my clothes fit better.
I will continue to jog 3-4 days a week and teach Zumba 1 day/week. Even though I was out of town and not POP for 2 weeks, I always lost.
I will be at the beach this weekend, and after 16 pounds I feel more confident doing so. What amazes me is how I feel! I feel great. More energy and more focused.
Have a good week everyone!

GOOD FOR YOU JENN!!! Looks like your consistency is paying off. Last time you were up to 1 mile without stopping - now two! Progress is so exciting!! GET YOUR MEASURING TAPE THIS WEEK!!! :) As you start reaching you goals it's SO rewarding to look back at what you DID measure and where you are now. I measure in a couple days. Didn't do so hot last week. Infact over the TWO weeks I've seen no progress. Then... yesterday my monthly visitor came. NO WONDER! (Since I had a baby a few months ago, my body is still trying to figure things out). As of today I FINALLY got below 145!!!! I was really hoping to be 139 by now, but I'm still making progress so I can't complain. Keep up the great work! 1lb at a time my friend, 1lb at a time.

Hey Girls !
I too am having trouble sticking to the program. My biggest problem is breakfast. I wondered what you all usually eat for breakfast. I am afraid to use spenda because everyone says it's so bad for you. Keep up the good work and I know you all will reach your goals. You have done way better than me.

For breakfast I like:
1) A shake (recipe in recipe forum)
2) egg whites & oatmeal
3) An omelet with oatmeal or half an apple. I'm pretty sure option 2 benefits me most, but I really love the shake. (I use 2 egg whites, 1 banana, 1/2 cup blueberries, a little splenda and 1/2tsp vanilla and a handful of ice. I know they say use pasteurized egg whites but I'm not worried.) As for Slenda.... I only use 1/2 packet with my oatmeal or shake. I'm not sure about the whole "unhealthy" thing, but seriously - it's SO much better than any other breakfast options (or no breakfast at all) so I'm not too worried. lolGOOD LUCK and keep us posted.

Try the natural sweetener made from the Stevia plant. There are a few different brands that use it. Sweet Leaf or Truvia are a couple of the more popular ones. It is a natural herb not a chemical derivative. It has a nice sweet taste that works well for baking or sprinkling. There is even a liquid form of sweet leaf for drinks. You should be able to find it in most grocery stores near the sugar substitutes or the diabetic supplies.
