    Turkey Patties a la Dolmades

    __________________________________________________________________________

From member JanetJek  This recipe started life as a Dolmades recipe from a book called Greek Moods & Menus by Elvira Monroe and Theoni Pappas.  Since I couldn’t find NSA grape leaves and needed another variation on turkey patties, here’s what I came up with.  These patties bring back memories of the taste of the Dolmades from the original recipe.

    • 1.25 lb ground turkey breast
    • 1 teaspoon dried mint (or more to taste)
    • Juice of 1 lemon (about ¼ cup)
    • 1/3 cup scallions (green onions) sliced (maybe about 6 thin ones)
    • ¼ cup chopped parsley (I used curly leaf)

Sprinkle mint on turkey, then pour lemon juice over it.  Let sit for 10 minutes or more. Mix in other ingredients into patties.  Cook your favorite way.  I bake mine for about 9 minutes at 350 degrees, with convection.

A variation (which I haven’t tried yet) would be to make it as turkey crumble and mix it with rice.   I would increase all non-turkey ingredients for this variation.  Or mix it with the rice and make turkey/rice patties.

I made the turkey crumble variation suggested by Janet tonight for my wife and myself and mixed it with browned rice once cooked. I mixed all of the ingredients listed above in a bowl, first starting with the ground turkey breast, mint and lemon juice ... waited for 10 minutes as directed, then mixed in the rest of the ingredients before browning on stove top on medium heat. Served it with steamed green beans on the side with a salad.

The result? It was as if someone poured out all of the contents of Dolmades onto our dishes. The taste was WONDERFUL! The mint, lemon, scallions and parsley were great together, reminding me of my childhood in the Greek community in Cincinnati. My wife and I agreed this was the BEST ground turkey recipe we have tried yet!!! Big Smile

Verdict: TWO THUMBS WAY UP!  YesYes
