__________________________________________________________________________ Baked Tofu __________________________________________________________________________ From member sasha. This keeps for days in the fridge. BMOS Note: This is a recipe intended for vegetarians who use tofu. Other members may use this recipe if at goal and Living Lean. As posted in early 2003, this recipe originally included soy sauce or Braggs Amino Proteins, neither of which are recommended for use during the reduction phase. In order to make this dish more plan-friendly, I've made the substitution below. - tofu
- on-plan soy sauce substitute (see Condiments Section, this forum)
Cut tofu into 1 oz portions, sprinkle soy sauce substitute. Bake at 400 degrees for 30-60 minutes depending on crispness desired. Store in refrigerator. Compatible with Body Type: Breakfast A-B-C-D-E Morning Snack A-B-C-D-E Lunch A-B-C-D-E Afternoon Snack A-B-C-D-E Dinner A-B-C-D-E PM Snack A-D-E This Recipe Contains: Protein D How do I measure out a serving?

I could use soy sauce, but isn't it forbidden on account of all the sodium? Please help...I'm confused.
Thanks for posting the recipes. They're a big help.

Remember, these recipes are included for our friends on Living Lean, so you may see ingredients from time to time that are not totally 'plan friendly'. You'll see that the Braggs amino acids is listed...some folks have used them in place of soy sauce. I've never used the product, so I cannot speak for it.

And for our members who are vegetarians and don't eat meat....
I got a bottle of the Braggs, but haven't really used it yet. So I can't give a good opinion of the product. It's there for when I've got a hankering for teriyaki sauce....which hasn't happened....yet! ;)

So should we avoid using recipes posted on the recipes forum?

I guess it wasn't obvious to me that recipes posted on the recipes forum were not for newbies. That's a disappointment since I was really looking forward to that Hawaiian Chicken! Oh well....guess food will be bland for a few months. Ugh!

Hey Bette -
Most of the recipes are fine for everyone. You just have to watch for the ones with ingredients that are not recommended during the reduction portion or are for vegetarians, like tofu and Bragg's Liquid Amino Acids.
Enjoy the Hawaiian Chicken! :D

I'll avoid the baked tofu for now, but look forward to sampling the Hawaiian chicken.

Hi,
Braggs is a good supplement - contains lots of amino acids - and a good flavor enhancer. But it does contain a lot of sodium and wouldn't be appropriate for the first part of the plan.

Unless you do not eat meat and require an alternate source of protein, tofu would not be recommended during the reduction phase. Bragg's is not recommended at all because of high sodium content.

My 2 cents on Bragg's Liquid Aminos... I'm aware that the official position on Bragg's has to be that it's not allowed during the weight loss period. However, I just want to share my own experience. I've been using Bragg's for years. It's wonderful and tasty, and a great way of adding important liquid aminos and even protein to a vegetarian diet. Of course, I used to use it much more liberally than I do now. I've been on the 6WBMO for 2 weeks and 3 days, and I have lost 15 pounds. I'm really sticking to the program in every way--eating plan, cardio, body sculpting, etc. My one departure is that I use a little--and I mean little--Bragg's every once in a while. When I cook up a whole brick (14 oz) of tofu diced to have in 2 oz portions, I add one teaspoon to the skillet. That means that I'm getting only 1/7 of a teaspoon's worth when I eat one 2 oz portion. I also occasionally drizzle 1/2, which is 110 mg sodium, over my rice and tofu, or add 1/2 tsp to shitake mushrooms along with white wine when I'm cooking them up. I know myself, and my cravings are much more for salty than for sweet. This indulgence in Bragg's for a slightly salty flavor has probably made the difference for me in not slipping off the program.

I realize this is an old post, but I'm new the program and just printing off some recipes. Braggs has NO sodium whatsoever. It is strictly made from soy beans and water. I have used it for years and actually did some research into it, and it is a highly recommeded product by the likes of Dr. Mercola and other health types. Please tell me if I am wrong, as I love the stuff.

I'm afraid I don't have much more to offer beyond what has been stated in the posts above yours. This is one of those rare foods where the issue isn't added salt, rather it's an issue of the sodium level naturally occurring in the product. As noted in the post above yours, a mere half teaspoon of this product contains 110 mg of sodium-- perhaps not a significant issue in a healthy diet, but for purposes of this plan during the reduction phase, its use may not give you the results you're after.
