Throughout high school, I was always about 180 lbs. I could never get below 180 lbs, and when I was a senior (when I met my husband) I was 186 lbs, and wore size 16. I was always active – in middle school I participated in sports and dance classes, and in high school was active in dance classes, choir, and theater arts, but always stayed above 180 lbs. The year after I graduated from high school, I became pregnant with my now husband, and gained 80-85 lbs during that first pregnancy, and could not loose the majority of the weight. I had tried “starvation†diets, diet pills, and exercise – nothing seemed to work. My husband would tell me, “You need to lose weight,†and I would respond with “Yeah, I know,†and go to another room. I kept telling myself that I looked good, that I was proud to be a “big girl.†I didn’t want to admit what was in the back of my mind – I was obese. I’d seen firsthand the social, physical, and health problems that someone obese – even morbidly obese – can endure, but I really didn’t know how to change. I was always tired, had little energy, and after just a few minutes of play with my two boys I would tell them I needed a break – and I could see the disappointment in their eyes. Something HAD to change – but how?
So when Michael Thurmond and BMOS Dolores came to my call center in August of 2006, I was just glad to see a presentation about one of the products we sell. They talked to us about the history of the program and Dolores gave a wonderful testimonial presentation. What both of them said got me excited and also inspired me, and I was lucky enough to get one of the kits. At this point I was very excited to have the kit, and told my family about it. Nobody believed it would work, but I was like, “What the heck – I’ve tried everything else.†The following Monday (August 7) I started the plan, following what the book said.
